So, I got my dress a few months back and have been absolutely, totally in love with it. I’m having a fall wedding outdoors with an emphasis on warm-toned string lighting and cream flowers for decoration. It’s a soft ivory with gold detail that flatters my coloring, and it makes my look like 3 sizes smaller! (I’m a 14/16). Totally my dream dress! However, one snide comment from a “friend” has me doubting my choice. Is this.. tacky? For reference regarding the formality/tone of the event, I’m also posting my bridesmaid dresses.

everyusernameistaken : This is a gorgeous, fairy-tale dress …you look really like a princess. It makes me think of old palace courts and grand balls…that kinda thing. Am I wrong, or is there a Russian touch to it? or some similar style? The top part, the lace and headpiece remind me of those gorgeous, old style Russian dresses. (in the best sense possible)
Granted, it’s an unusual dress, not something you see every day – but I think that’s a good thing. Interesting choice, unique dress. Very beautiful and romantic. I wouldn’t have any regret if I were you, on the contrary.
Nevermind any bitchy comments, dear. You look absolutely gorgeous.

You look like a princess!!! That dress is amazing, it’s classic but different at the same time, and I love the gold. I hate people calling things tacky so much. It’s a word that seems to come out of the woodwork wherever weddings are concerned and it’s so completely unconstructive. Literally all it means is that that person has a different style and thinks that any other opinion is wrong. Obviously we all like different things or all our weddings would be the same! You love it, we love it, your groom will love it, so don’t let one person get to you.

I adore your dress!! For some reason it’s reminding me of Belle from Beauty and the Beast…it is a gorgeous, classic and classy princess dress. There is absolutely nothing tacky about it, that’s just pure silliness.

You’re spot on, cassidyrue! It’s the Belle dress from Alfred Angelo, which is part of why it called to me so much! She’s my favorite Disney princess role model- smart, resourceful, compassionate, courageous, and a bookworm!
Thank you so much for the kind words, all of you. It really helped. <3

It is a lot of dress, but it is hardly tacky. You wear it well, and obviously love it, so forget what she said!

I love it on you! I have learned with wedding planning that people will comment whatever their heart desires, but you need to do you and what your vision of your day is. Some people just don’t get it. My sister made a huff about my bridesmaid dresses, but I didn’t care because that’s what I wanted.
