The second is definitely it girl! I would throw on a ribbon – either satin or sparkly, and then bling yourself up and I definitely think you can make it look less matronly! I agree with doing your hair down, too 🙂

I also really like the lace dress. Have you thought about altering the neckline into a collarbone bearing/boat style neckline. That gives it a bit more modern edge but keeps the sleeves. I think it would be more or less easily done. I think it would look amazing and is one of my personal favourites.

EDIT: Ok so I must have been typing when your update went through because when I went back I realised it already had the neckline I was describing. The pictures you added look amazing and the neckline looks so different in the second set. Love it and you in it. I agree shapewear can dramaticly  change the shape of the dress but other than that I wouldn’t change a thing

I like te first one better, but think it would look nicer without the sleeves. It looks like it could quite easily be made strapless?

I got to be honest bee, I don’t love either of these.  There’s something in the detail work in both that feels dated and not at all current.

lichi :  extensions will be your best friend! i think as long as the hairstyle looks loose and boho, you’ll be fine. and if you love a floral wreath, go for it!

I like the second, but I’d see what a seamstress can do in terms of the slouching and sleeves. I agree with a PP that a capped sleeve could be it; I think they need to be shorter or longer and the shoulders are possibly a little wide for you. It may be possible to add some boning to help with the fit around the bust. It looks a bit like the top is falling down in some of the photos and I think that’s most of the trouble with it. When it’s altered to fit perfectly and stays put it could look like a different dress. The back is gorgeous.

I do like it with the slip as well, you have a lovely figure and that really shows it off. I think the veil is perfect with it, so I wouldn’t change that. I think extensions with a half up/down do, quite boho and wavy, could work beautifully. I went for a false pony tail and people couldn’t tell that it wasn’t my hair, and it was only a cheap synthetic jobby.

I agree about trying a belt or ribbon around the waist. I don’t think you need it to highlight your waist but it could be the missing touch on the dress. The other thing I’m wondering is whether you have the sleeves and illusion lace removed from the dress, some thin straps added, and get a separate topper with full length sleeves. I’m not sure whether it would work or not though.

lichi :  I’m also 35.  Dress shopping for me was hard.  I learned I don’t like a lot of what’s on trend and while I do love lace and applique, I’m really picky about which.  On the plus side, I do think these dresses give you some insight on what would work better on you.  I think the more structured top looks MUCH better on you. So I’d pick something that is already like that (vs. trying to build something in).  For me it was a matter of just looking at different kinds of lace until I found something that felt contemporary without being trendy.  I think what is throwing me is the style of lace in dress #2 reminds me of the lace doilies my mom had on our formal living room growing up, and the pattern and fit of #1 reminds me of the satin gowns that were in style in the early 2000’s.

lichi :  any chance of changing the neckline of #2? ItsIa lovely dress but a bit of skin would make it less matrony.

Wouldn’t change a thing about the all over lace dress. It’s perfect. The colour is so beautiful too. I honestly think you look dreamy and romantic (not matronly at all) in that gown. Please DO NOT ruin  it’s olde world , classic feel with a blingy belt.  Just pop it on as is, wear it with pride and be the classic, beautiful bride that you are.

lichi :  I would try chicken cutlets and a better bra/corset in the first dress because I think with your ladies more supported the dress would go from blah to va va voom. Your waist and hips look great in it, although I do see the issue with the fabric but I’d really try the simple chicken cutlet thing.

They use them on photoshoots for this very reason. They can really make a difference.
