My last fitting is next Friday, and the seamstress warned me that because she hasn’t had to take the dress in at all, if I come in and am thinner, it’s going to cost $$$ to get it taken in. I think with the stress of everything going on, I’ve been feeling icky about myself. I haven’t gained weight or anything. I run 5-6 tmes a week and work out my arms, and am fairly thin (size 6, 5′ 7″) but I decided to try cutting carbs this week. I’m dying, but I’ll deal. Anyways … I want to lose a little weight just to regain some confidence. Theoretically how much could I lose without making the dress need alterations? It’s a loose fitting mermaid. I’ve seen a lot of threads with similiar questions, but no one seems to be worried about the dress being too big.

It might depend on where you lose weight? I lose weight immediately in my midsection, so even though I lost about 4-5 pounds, I didn’t need alterations.

I’m not even sure where! I didn’t gain weight, but I just feel icky. Does that even make sense? Did other people feel like this before their wedding?

I lost like 6 pounds… And could have taken it in it in… But Didn’t really need it taken in.. But at final fitting it was falling down a little when I walked… Luckily it’s a corset so I’m banking on my mom and bridesmaids sucking me in it until I can’t breath so it stays up!!

It’s hard to say how much you could lose workout needing alterations, but I imagine not too much unless you have leeway with a corset back. Does it have straps? If it’s strapless you want to be careful so it doesn’t slip down! You’re already a thin healthy size and you’re very active, so you obviously don’t NEED to lose weight. How about trying other methods of boosting confidence than losing weight? Eat healthy without focusing on weight loss, meditate, do a boudoir shoot?? I’m sure many people feel this, weddings put extra pressure on women to look thin.

I lost some after alterations, and it made the dress feel a little looser, but didn’t change the way it looked on me at all. It was structured enough that the few less pounds didn’t change the look, but I preferred the way it felt on me when it was tighter. I don’t think it was worth the stress and pressure of me trying to lose those few extra. You can’t tell at all!
Also my dress had straps. I don’t know that I would feel comfortable losing much without straps. The waist of mine didn’t sit very tight, and in a strapless dress, the majority of the support comes from the waist/underbust. If yours is strapless, I’d say don’t mess with it!

What exactly do you feel icky about? Without knowing your body type..Id say with a mermaid you may be ok IF you lost weight if it was in the hip/butt area. My dress is a mermaid style too and that’s where it feels the tightest..but im pretty curvy there lol.
From the sounds of honestly, you dont need to lose any weight at all! But just curious as to what has you feeling off.

Yeah- maybe it’s just about getting more water, sleep and veggies and proteins.
I could tell I lost weight the final few days from stress and running errands but it was fine. I wouldn’t try to loose weight- I think you’ll do that on your own by accident right before. I went hours running errands and wouldn’t fit it in to have a snack break.
Just depends on the structure of your dress. If nothing else do push-ups which will focus on your biceps/chest… if you change your hand placement (farther back) you can fit triceps and that’s most of what people will see anyways.
