So, because we’re having a big wedding I had to scrimp and save in many ways. I decided that instead of a regular bridal gown I would get a bridemaid dress that comes in white. I found a beautiful dress for a fantastic price ($160). The sample I tried on seemed far too big, but the girl said that according to my measurements I needed only the next size down. This didn’t seem right to me, but she insisted that i not order a size any smaller and they couldn’t be held responsible i it was too tight blah, blah, blah. So I ordered the size she reccommended and waited 4 months for it to come in. It arrived last week and it’s way big and falling off. I went to a seamstress nearby that they refferred me to and was told that the alterations would be $350 – $450!!!! that’s 2 to 3 times the cost of the dress- it seems absurd to me. I’m so heartbroken and don’t know what to do next. It would be cheaper to reorder the dress in a smaller size, but I’d have to wait another 4 months (almost to my wedding) and there’s no guarrantee that would fit either :..(

Oh Hun I hope things pick up!!!
What I can suggest is to speak to other alterationists. They stem to differ GREATLY so you may be able to get a mget tether price!

look around for other seamstresses, she can’t be the only one.
so sorry to hear that, that really is shitty. can the bridal store go half or anything as they gave you crappy advice?

I would take it back to the salon you ordered it from and tell them that THEY insisted that you order the larger size, so THEY should alter it for either a substantially reduced charge or for free.

Look around for another seamstress. Go to other bridal shops or see if they have any they can recommend. Thats insane and I would refuse to pay that as well. Itll work out! Keep your head up!

I would speak to the manager and demand they fix it or order a one free, because they are the ones that insisted you order something too big.

Wow, that is completely ridiculous! You should definitely look around for a different seamstress. Makes me wonder if the bridal shop gets some sort of kick-back from that seamstress.

find another seamstress…. asian dry cleaners /alterations… they usually are more budget friends…

I’d do this as my first course of action. It doesn’t fit and your options are now limited or expensive…because of them. Perhaps you can return it and find something new.
Try not to worry…just starting looking to fix things asap.

@Jenniphyr: << this!
I am so sorry this is happening.

Perhaps you could sell it to another budget bride and buy a dress online with a corset back
