Hello all! Happy New Year Bees – it’s our year, just over six months to go! I got a surprise phone call today telling me that my dress arrived early, and now I’m wondering when I should schedule my alterations. The salon I bought my dress from typically arranges two, then a third at extra cost if necessary.
So, August Bees, when do you have your first fitting? Please feel free to elaborate below!

I’m curious to see responses to this post as well. I pick my dress up on Tuesday but will have to take it off-site to a tailor…I have NO clue what the timelines will/should be.

My dress is in another state (where I’m getting married), and is WAY too big in the bust and too long. I had my first fitting over Christmas, my second one is in March, and I’m probably having one more in May before I take my bridal portraits in June. Hopefully I won’t gain 10 pounds or something crazy between then and the wedding.

I’m getting married the first week of July and started my alterations the 1st of November. They will probably be finished in February. My alterations lady said there is no reason to wait if you’re not planning on changing your weight.

I’m trying mine on in a week’s time! It will only to be to check the dress is ok and to pick out veil, order crinoline etc.
I wouldnt have a proper fitting until much closer to the wedding. I guess I will know exactly when next week when I have spoken to the shop assistant.
I would want it close enough to the wedding, I will not change much weight-wise but far enough away that there is time for atleast 2 fittings.

Thanks for the comments Bees! I came back to answer my own question as well – I finally got around to calling the salon back, told them about my concerns, and agreed on mid-April for the first fitting. Can’t wait! ๐

I got two different suggestions. The sales rep at the store said I should come in during March for my first fitting, but then when I talked to alterations, they said May was fine.

I am doing my first fitting April 19th. The alterations lady said I could come in as early as March but if I “wanted to wait a bit”, early May would work too. So excited to see my dress when it arrives next month, I plan to go visit it regularly ๐

Oh gosh, I’ve had my dress for over a year now, it’s already been through one round of alterations… but I put it on last summer and I think it needs quite a bit more work!
I’m going to wait until early May too for the next fitting. I think that will leave plenty of time until August.

@kgba: Because my dress is 900 miles away from me I’m getting fitted whenever I’m in the area (my home state) so I’ve already had my first fitting last August! Will have my next one in May, and if all goes well no more after that!

After picking my dress up in January I called my seamstress immediately to book an appointment.
When she found out my wedding date she quickly remarked on how “organized” I was (READ:too early/eager) ๐
Since I am still hoping to lose some weight and tone up she recommended my first fitting for 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding. So as of right now my appointment is for June 13th.

I’d say once in July and then you try your dress on again near the begining of august and decide whats left that needs to be altered if its alot, maybe 3 weeks before your day, otherwise I’d say 2 weeks before
