I appreciate the help, but I’m going to go with my personal style on this one and stick with this top. For those saying it looks like lingerie, it’s not. I think it will look better changing the straps as they just don’t look quite right to me for a wedding.

If you’re just going to keep getting butthurt when you ask for advice, then stop asking for advice 🤷🏻♀️

@mrsaime: I’m not, I’m just saying (after more thought) I want to stick with the top and change the straps.

@winterily: The lining color is really throwing me off. It’s very orange in comparison to your natural skin tone. If you are changing the straps, I’d get the lining changed to one that better matches your skin tone as well. The point of that top is to look like you aren’t wearing anything underneath so the skin tone should be a good match to yours otherwise it just negates the look it is trying to achieve.
I also suggest taping your boobs and not going with a strapless bra as it will show through on that top which again goes against point of that style of top which is to look like your wearing a strategically placed wisp of lace.

@cmsgirl: that’s a fair point about the lining, thank you. I wanted something darker and not skin coloured as I’m quite fair, so I might look into having it changed.
Ok, I’ve never taped my boobs, that’s new also! Thanks for tips, appreciate it.

@zl27: how do you add structure without boning, if that’s possible?

The new top looks much better on you than the top from the dress you tried on, in my opinion. I think a wider strap would be lovel with it, and maybe do one where you can wear a normal bra so you don’t have to do strapless all day? The ribbon ties are really pretty on the inspiration dress. If you were still looking for some bling, you can do a belt as straps as well. I looked into that with a dress I was intered in. I ended going a different direction, but you can see what the strps looked like with a belt

I love this new top, and the skirt is gorgeous too! I actually considered a similar look for my bridesmaids in a blush. I think those ribbon straps are gorgeous and whimsical, and would also consider a slightly thicker rhinestone strap as well! I’d take it to a seamstress and see what suggestions they have–probably ideas you haven’t even thought of!

@winterily: I don’t think you can add structure to this top.
That being said, structure is accomplished through various means – fabric type, construction, internal corsets, boning are just some examples. Properly done, structure should comfortably show off your strengths while allowing you to maintain your personal style.
I think you are trying to force this top to work instead of looking for a top that fits your vision and figure.
Eta: I want to point out that the models in all your inspo pics have their arms in awkward positions to make the top look good. That’s not going to work in real life, and I fear you will be back here post wedding because you hate your photos.

@zl27: this is arms down. I’m going for a flowy look if that helps.

@Sunshine024: Thank you 😊 The idea of a normal bra is great, strapless are SO uncomfortable.
@klacey11: Thank you. Mm I’m thinking a seamstress is on the cards too. I’m feeling so lost and a little defeated by dresses 😅

@winterily:
You are right to be concerned about the straps l think, those adjustable buckles are partly what makes it look like lingerie. The difference between it and the ones you posted on models is that the model ones are much firmer/ thicker lace.
Since you can’t add structure and you can’t stand strapless bras then wider straps ( ageing? what a strange idea..) or even cap sleeves would, hopefully, make a normal bra possible. Given you are also considering changing the lining too, it does seem like a lot of work to make it work if that makes sense . Still if you end up with what you want, great!

@winterily: I prefer the top you bought to the photo…yours looks sexier & more interesting whereas to me the photo looks more childish… i think you look awesome! just looked at other comments and DISAGREE that it looks like lingerie, I think it looks hot but classy 🙂

I like the style you are going for! I think changing the straps will help. Def repost when skirt comes in. How do you feel about the little frillies at the top? Not sure the exact word, but the little string things on the neckline. Can those be hemmed down? I think that is what gives it the lingerie feel, but I also think when you replace the straps and put on the skirt, this will get rid of it, as well.

Also, for bras, I would recommend those bras that stick on and give you some support. You can also always see if you can get cups sewn in or just wear nipple covers.
These are comfortable, at least in my experience.
