Hi all – I’m having some dress regret and need some unbiased perspective from you bees.
A little background: I have never really seen myself in a super “traditional” gown on my wedding day, I wanted something bridal, but with a twist – if that makes sense. Several months ago I took 2 of my best ladies on a hunt to find something that fit the bill. I ended up finding something in the first shop – a lace gown that has a grey/blue/silver under layer to it. The store sold off the rack, so I took it home with me that day more or less in my size with plans to have it altered later (it’s an A-line and I wanted a mermaid-ish silhouette). However, after trying it on at home, I have been having some dress regret – I try it on about once a month to think about it, I truly don’t hate it and I wonder if I will love it once the alterations are done (changing the shape of the gown and taking some bulk out of the bottom by cutting out the under layer).
Fast forward to today – I happen to be home early from work because I had an offsite meeting and it wasn’t worth the time to go back to the office. I had seen a small bridal shop about a mile from our house having a sample sale, so I decided to walk over and just look around (I know, I shouldn’t have contributed to my madness by looking at other dresses). Their website said they didn’t take walk-ins, so I half figured that it would just be an exercise walk there and back. When I got there, they were very sweet and welcomed me to look around. I found this one dress that looked just beautiful and it was in my size – they happened to have a break in appointments and were happy for me to try it on.
Anyway, long story short, I also loved that dress, it’s the sleek silhouette that I envisioned, but it’s more traditional than I thought I’d like. I’m hoping I can post both here and get some opinions on what you all think? Both are appropriate for our venue/event. Buying the new dress would be an expense, but it’s actually exactly my size, where the original dress that I bought does need some alterations, so the difference in price would not be as muchas it could be. Additionally, I got the original dress for a literal steal, it hasn’t been touched or altered so I think I could sell it for a reasonable price.
Sorry for the fuzziness in all photos, I actually didn’t take them intending to post them here – I was just sitting here contemplating the choices and thought of posting it here!
This first one is the dress I own (please ignore the messy room, we’re doing some major overhaul to the house and getting rid of a lot of stuff and it’s a disaster in the meantime). I am holding the dress behind me at the bottom because I’m going to have it altered to be a mermaid-ish silhouette and it’s currently A-line.
The next two are the sample dress I tried on today.
What do you guys think? Anyone have dress regret before and then were totally back on board after alterations? The second dress is part of a sample sale, so I can’t wait long to make the decision. I feel crazy thinking about buying a second dress, I think I’m mostly hoping for reassurance that the first dress is great, but I’d take honesty above all else :). Thank you in advance!
