So I’m going to a wedding tonight, which starts a 6p.m. and I can’t decide what to wear. I was in my sister’s wedding this summer as a Maid/Matron of Honor and we just bought dresses off the rack for it from Le Chateau. I was hoping to get another “wear” out of it, so I was thinking of wearing it tonight. Since I wore it at the wedding my fiance see’s me in it as a bridesmaid and has convinced me it may be too dressy to wear as a guest. Please tell me if this is appropriate to wear as a guest tonight. I have a pic of a dress thats on the website, my dress is the exact same except without the belt. Comments or votes are greatly appreciated!!

Unless you know the wedding is going to be a super casual backyard BBQ, I don’t see how a cocktail-length dress at an evening wedding can be overdressed. You’re a lucky and rare example of someone who is actually planning to re-wear a bridesmaid dress! Be glad!!

@Eglantine: Thats what I was thinking, but when my man said something it made me feel self-concious about wearing it. Its like a shiny fabric so maybe to him it appears flashy, but what do most men know about womens fashion really???lol

@sparkly: My Fiance thinks maxi dresses are too formal for every day wear because its “like a floor length gown.” Lol! I think your dress is good!

True that. Go with this dress. It’s very cute!

I’m feeling better about it now, but I’m curious as to the reasons why 2 ppl thought it wasn’t suitable.

Definitely wear it. It’s an evening wedding too, which although not always, tend to be more “formal” or as your Fiance says “shiny-fabric friendly” lol.

@sparkly: I wouldn’t worry about a couple people not thinking it’s appropriate, it’s probably that they think it’s too short, or not short enough or something. There is never going to be 100% of people pleased with something.
It’s a cute dress, and you will look beautiful at the wedding.

Don’t take fashion advice from a man unless his name is Tim Gunn

I think some people might be iffy about the top looking kind of bridal? I don’t know… I usually just stay clear of any white-ish colors even within a color-block. It’s definitely not too dressy for an evening wedding.

Totally appropriate, and cute!
