Hello, newbie here. And I apologize for the long post.
So I’ve finally settled on two dresses. Both are flattering, well-designed, and well-made (total affronts to the "Made in China" stigma). And I can’t decide between them. So I welcome all opinions. Also, if anyone can post real wedding pictures of these dresses, especially Bee (I’ve found ones for Fern), I would really appreciate it. A bit about the venue: I’m having an outdoor ceremony on a lawn overlooking green hills, followed by an indoor reception at an art deco type hall.
Melissa Sweet – Fern
Pros: Romantic and sweet; perfect style for outdoor setting; no beading on fabric so it’s soft to the touch; cheaper of the 2
Cons: Bodice is a bit big so it fans out, and I worry that alterations may change the look of the bodice; I’m also not crazy about the lace fringe on the top of bodice; I’ll need custom length; and the back is a bit plain so I’ll need to add buttons
Melissa Sweet – Bee
Pros: The standard size 8 fits me perfectly; perfect bodice fit; perfect length; no alterations required; and the back of the dress is gorgeous; this dress made me go ‘wow’
Cons: Very fancy looking; I worry it may be too antique looking; beading doesn’t feel good to the touch; all the beading may be too much for outdoor garden type wedding; tier skirts can lift up to reveal plain fabric underneath; more expensive of the 2

I like the Fern. The Bee is a tad bit too ornate, and it sounds like you are not thrilled with the beading which is a big part of the dress. Plus an expert seamstress can do the alterations on the bodice so that it fits perfectly without compromising the integrity of the design

This is just me, but I like the Bee better. Yes, it’s more ornate, but Fern just isn’t floating my boat. Which boils down to this: go with whatever made you go Wow, if you can afford it. If you ask a million different bees, you’ll get a million different answers. The only one that matters is yours. They’re both beautiful dresses, and I’m sure you’ll look stunning in either of them.

Both dresses are gorgeous. The Bee has more of a vintage look, while the fern has a more modern look. When you try them on, does one make you feel more special than the other or speak to you in some way?
I think either would be fine with your venue.

I like both of these dresses, and actually think that they have somewhat of a similar look… so it’s nice to know that you are right on with the style that you like!
With your indoor vintage reception, I’d go with the slightly fancier of the two dresses– the Bee. But, whichever you choose isn’t going to be the wrong choice. They are similar and both beautiful, so it really comes down to which one you feel like the bride in!

It sounds like the Bee would be easier, since you wouldn’t need the alterations and everything – so maybe the costs would even out once you factored alterations into the cost of the Fern dress?
That said – I looooove the Fern. So pretty!
You’ll have to let us know which one you decide to go with – and a picture!

If the Bee made you go "wow" then I feel you should absolutely go with it!

They are both very romantic-looking but I like the Bee the best, I think it would go perfectly with your wedding theme.

The fern is my fave but I agree with the others. Go with the one that made you go "wow." Both are beatiful.

I like both of them. However, based on the reasons you cited, I think you should go with Bee. It sounds like you like that one somewhat better, and like they say…if the glove fits, wear it!

Thank you so much for all the responses! I will be deciding on Monday so I will definitely update and post a pic – if the salon allows it 🙂

I may be biased because the Bee reminds me of my own dress, but it looks absolutely amazing. It is very unique, but still bridal. The Fern is beautiful as well, but yes, it is a bit more plain. I don’t think the Bee will overwhelm your outdoor setting – it’s not like you are wearing a ballgown to get married on a hill. Whichever you chose, I am sure you will look beautiful!! I love Melissa Sweet!

i like the BEE!
I don’t think it would be too fancy for a garden wedding, looks like it would be Perfect (with a capital P!). Plus it already fits you- no alterations! Weee! Go with the one you feel like you are floating in- cause you feel so amazing it.

Welcome to Weddingbee!
Because of my persoanl tastes I like BEE better. The dresses are so similar, you really can’t go wrong. Is there a way to post photos of you in the dresses? Sometimes it helps seeing them on real people versus models.
