I never thought I would be another “Dress Regret” bride, but I just may be.
I am a terrible decision maker, and I ended up buying my dress on the spot – and now I am not sure it was the best choice.
Please tell me which dress looks best. The first is Melissa Brooch by Maggie Sottero (the one that got away) and the second is the David’s Bridal dress I have already purchased.

I choose the 2nd one! The first one is nice too but I don’t like the gather/brooch in the skirt.

I chose the Maggie… comparing the two it just looks of higher quality and I think flatters you more!

I voted for the Maggie. I think it accentuates your curves better.

I probably should have included this tidbit in my original post….but…..
I am too close to my wedding (and on too small of a budget) to order the Maggie. If I was going to go with the Maggie, I would get a replica done.
If I decided to do that, I would wait until the Maggie replica was in my hands before selling the DB dress – just to make sure it was okay. I totally agree that the Maggie looks to be of “better quality”, but wanted to add that I wouldn’t actually be getting the real Maggie quality.
Edit: Also, the DB dress does not have a corset back, which is why the Maggie is a bit more curve-friendly – but I would consider getting a corset put into the DB dress.

Both dresses are beautiful but I’m more a fan of the second one, just because it’s a little more flattering

I voted for the Maggie, but I think the problem you have with your dress is fixable. Up top, it looks way too small, where its really pinching and the Maggie lets you hang out a little bit and look fabulous. Instead of getting a replica made, I would put a corset back into your DB dress and alter it to have a sweetheart neckline. I think this will be more cost effective for you too, since these are normal and relatively easy alterations.
edit: just saw your update, and I agree! I wouldn’t get a replica made because no matter what it won’t be Maggie quality. I think your idea will work out great!

I love the second one on you!! I actually almost bought that dress today at David’s Bridal! It is so flattering on many body types.

I agree that if you changed the neckline to a sweetheart it would be gorgeous! Both look great on you but if you’re worried about liking the Maggie more, the neckline change will be an easy fix and will look beautiful.

They are both very pretty but i like the Maggie better because it doesn’t cut you up where the girls are like the other one. I think your idea of a corset back in the Davids one would help and make it more like the fit on the maggie. And i agree with arenyth a sweetheart neckline would look awesome. But still they are both very pretty! Good Luck 🙂

I love the Melissa, because that’s my dress as well, BUT I do think the David’s dress is very very pretty as well – the shapes are so different that it’s hard to pick.
I would stick with your DB dress. For me, the point of getting a maggie was to ensure that it would fit right on me. I would not suggest putting a corset in, because the fabric is so thin and not made to be a real “corset” that pulls you in and make everything look tight. I am a 2 dress bride with both a Maggie and DB dress, and the DB does not hide anything, unfortunately, the way the Maggie does.
BUT – if you DO love the Melissa, why don’t you see if other brides have it in your size and would be willing to sell it? You can put a “looking for” post on the Classifieds and see if you get any bites. Because it’s a Maggie you have some wiggle room with sizing — I think I could be any of 3 sizes. 🙂 Check all the preowned dress sites too ! I think you have a good chance of finding the dress, if you ask. Good luck.

I voted for the Maggie – it looks great on you. In My Humble Opinion it has a better fit than the DB’s dress.

Thanks for your opinions all!
I know that the DB dress is a little too small (as I am in the process of losing weight – 25lbs down, 30 to go?)…so the cutting off at the boobs isn’t a huge issue for me. The Maggie was actually a little to small too (the corset wouldn’t do up all the way in the back)…but the sweetheart did make it less noticeable in the front.
That being said, I also have a bit of a budget issue. I originally wanted to spend less than $500 on my dress. The DB dress was $630 (including tax and duty). Plus we are talking about putting in a corset back ($150?) and adding a deeper sweetheart neckline ($?). I just don’t know if it is worth it.
I already have an ad in classifieds looking for the Maggie in my size, but no bites yet.
*Sigh* What to do, what to do.

I like the Maggie on you more. Maybe you can just keep looking for a dress that already has a sweetheart neckline and corset back. Maybe an Allure gown? They are well priced.

I voted for the Maggie as well – I think its very flattering and beautiful on you!
