I just went for my first alterations appointment and I am now picking out little things that I have never thought about before! Where is the hem of a wedding dress supposed to fall? Even with my higher heels, the dress still almost hit the floor. Are you supposed to be able to see your shoes when you walk? Any insight is appreciated!

i don’t want to see my shoes so i want the dress to sort of drag on the ground.. i think it may be a personal preference though?

I just wasn’t sure – I will have to see once I figure out which shoes I wear. I figured I can always show off my shoes in the pictures. I’ll save myself around $100 if I don’t get it hemmed so I’m trying to make it work! Thanks for the input:)

if you save yourself 100, go for it lol!!!! that’s the cost of a great pair of shoes!

I’d have to wear 6-inch stripper heels for mine to not need to be hemmed. lol. Lucky.
I want mine to just brush the floor.

I dont want a train or want mine to be on the ground but mine is just slightly off the ground (cant see any shoes though unless i stick my foot out or pick it up a tad) and when i am in my reception shoes my small wedge like flip flops it will be brushing the ground.

It depends what type of reception you’re having. If you are going to party and jump around dancing all night you don’t want to trip over the hem and I would go for something a tad bit above the floor. If you’re going to be walking around and talking all night, you could have it touch the floor.
But the one thing I wound’t do is find a pair of shoes to accomodate the dress! Your feet will be killing you and you don’t want to be the kind of bride who kicks of her shoes and is seen dancing bare foot or on stello flip flops all night.
