I think showing a little shoe would be fine, especially if you have a really rockin’ pair.  If you look at Mrs. Barrettes photo teaser post you can see her shoes and I love it.  You’re lucky that it’s the perfect length w/out heels because if you want to switch to flats later in the evening you’ll be fine!  Hope this is helpful!

Please post a pic of your dress. Otherwise your questions can hardly be answered, I think.

Often, lace dresses are taken in at the waist seam instead of along the hem, because of the edging on the lace (can’t cut it off, right?). Is there extra fabric along the waist that it could be let out? Or could you have a band added at the waist to lower the skirt? I agree, pictures would help!

Wear a smaller or no crinolines.  That will help if you don’t want to wear flats.

I got a pair of really pretty flats (because I’m taller than FI).  Unless you’re dead set on wearing heels, there are tons of pretty flats available.

I wouldn’t want my shoes showing too much either. It depends on how short is really is? You could get a really cute pair of shoes to match the color of your bridesmaid dresses?

Take the dress  to a dressmaker and ask for suggestions. You don’t necessarily have to incur any extra expense, just seek out her expertise.

I agree with julies1949, go to a couple in fact (if you love the dress so much).  They have to have some type of suggestion.
