Hello! I never thought I’d be one of these brides since I’m a stickler for planning every little detail but indecision has struck! Have any of you been in this situation? Please advise!
I went and tried on a dress that I love how I feel in – let’s call this the WT Dress (it’s the WToo Maisie dress). It’s $1600 dress alone (no tax, no shipping, no alterations, no accessories). The budget I set for us on dress is $1000. I know, I know… shouldn’t have even tried it on, but I did and here we are.
After a few more shopping stops, I found another ballgown dress that I like a lot as well (note I didn’t say “love”). It’s underbudget at $987 alone and is the Rebecca Ingram Erica Anne dress – let’s call this the RI dress.
So here’s my dilemma, I bought the RI dress (Final Sale) yesterday with my mom and Maid/Matron of Honor in tow and felt fine about it waking out. It meets all the needs – silhouette A-, price point A, feels (B). Of course, I came home and looked up the dress online and now it looks stiff, didn’t feel that way trying it on at the store and we’re having an outdoor wedding ceremony. That’s when it all snowballed – does the dress fit the ceremony venue? Should I have bit the bullet and splurged on the dress by taking away from another budget? What about that bow in the front? What do I do now that the salon has a Final Sale policy on special orders? Is this really about the dress or just making such a big purchase? Y’all. Help.
I guess I’m seeing if anyone else has felt this way and gone with a dress that wasn’t their “dream” dress for the sake of budget and still loved it in the end?

I love the look of the Rebecca Ingram one!

Both are very beautiful! To me they have very different looks. The RI is more classic and traditional and the WT is more modern and fun. Both would look beautiful in your venue. It just kinda depends on the look you were going for… do you want a more classic or modern look?
I prefer the look of the RI dress for personal preference, but you should honesty have the look you want!

Personally, I think the Rebecca Ingram dress looks classic and elegant and you look great in it. I find the WToo dress to be trendy and quite frankly overdone the past few years.
But ultimately, it only matters if you like it and feel good in it.
From a more financial aspect, the dress is final sale, so your option is to resell. You will likely not be able to resell for the same price and get only a fraction back so not only will you go $600 over your original budget but add in whatever the loss will be on the first dress. Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with “merely” liking a dress. I don’t think everything has to be this over-the-top head-over-heels in love and nothing less will suffice sort of reaction. We’re adults living in the real world with budgets. Like is not a bad word.

Yes! Definitely very different looks! The RI is more traditional and classic (probably perfect for a church wedding) and the WT is more whimsical and romantic. I think the WT is more me but the RI was the best compromise for look and budget which is why I picked it. But now I’m thinking should I compromise on my dress??
We’re having an outdoor ceremony in front of an oak tree so it’s definitely more of a down to earth feel and I’m not sure if the dress fits now 🙁 My Maid/Matron of Honor said that the dress will work depending on how we accessorize too, so maybe lighter accessories. The RI looks a bit stiffer/heavy (totally not in wearing it-actually it’s relatively light!) and the WT is more airy I guess?
Ceremony venue picture below: we will NOT have that many florals or color pops, just s simple alter and some vases at the front

looks like you’ve made your decision and are looking for approval in getting the more spendy dress… reading your last reply it seems like the RI is opposite of what you want, so based off that and what you’ll really love and feel the best in. Then maybe it’s worth buying the bullet and going with the more spendy option, you don’t want any regrets.

OMG, the RI dress is stunning on you. The WT dress is very pretty, but I don’t think it’s as nice on you as the RI. The WT dress sort of wears you, as opposed to the RI dress where you’re wearing the heck out of it. I get what you’re saying about it not matching the venue or something, but I don’t think it’s SO traditional that it will look out of place.

Thanks y’all! I think ultimately I need to iron out if I’m okay settling a little and spending that money elsewhere. In a perfect world I guess my budget wouldn’t be a limiting factor. Now my concern is whether it goes with the outdoor ceremony venue and it seems like the general consensus is it would?
I literally woke up in a burst this morning at like 4 with this whole dress situation/decision.

I had to Google which dress was which as it wasn’t clear from your post, and I 100% thought the top photo was the more expensive dress you loved, and the bottom one was the cheaper one. It certainly looks that way to me.
The RI one looks sensational on you, in your shoes I would keep it.

I don’t know which one is which in the photos… but I like the top one. It’s so luxe looking.

My dress was almost identical to the Waters, so obviously I love it, but that RI is gooorgeous! It looks so expensive and luxurious, and I love the colour!
Now, that said, it will not fit your venue. But is that REALLY that important? I consider myself kind of a hardass on etiquette and making sure all your guests are comfortable and can be harsh about those things – but who gives a fuck if your dress is a little fancy for an outdoor wedding? Its YOUR WEDDING DAY! If you can’t be a little extra then, when can you?!

I love the first one, it’s so elegant and timeless and looks more expensive than the white one. I think it will work for your venue.

#teamRI. Definitely classy and luxe and yes it fits the venue. The dress looks expensive. Go with what you got the feels from not from what you saw on the internet!
Is the dress/venue matching actually a thing?

The top dress looks ahhhhmazing on you and so expensive. The bottom dress is pretty and flattering but not everything to me.

Love the top dress. It looks amazing on you. It will fit the venue.
