Hi Bees! Well, I have to admit that I’ve been lurking these boards for some time during our planning process, and have been finding them incredibly helpful. This is my first post, and I would really appreciate your advice!
I’m getting married in March, and I have my dress. I had a really hard time picking a dress– I loved so many different dress styles for different reasons, and finally settled on a dress that combined several different elements of dress styles that I loved. My dress came recently, and a friend and also a familiy member that I’ve shown pictures of my dress to have expressed a lot of surprise at my dress choice, and not in a good way. The reason is that our wedding is at a ranch in the mountains, and these two individuals think my dress is inappropriate for a ranch wedding, and will clash with the outdoors-y setting.
I’m trying really hard to stay out of dress regret territory, because I like my dress, and also I feel like I should be able to wear whatever I want on my wedding day, regardless of where it is taking place! (Not to mention, given that our wedding is less than three months away, I fear I don’t really have time to get a new dress.) What do you guys think? Do you have any suggestions about what I can do in terms of either accessories or alterations make it more ranch-appropriate? For context, it’s not even a super-rustic ranch, its actually a resort!
Here are some pics pre-alterations (I need to get it taken in a bit in the back). The veil in the pictures isn’t my veil, just one they tried to sell to me at the dress shop.

@giddyspringbride: It’s gorgeous. Ignore what they say. It’s your wedding and you will look lovely in the dress you chose!

You look amazing in that dress. And I completely disagree with your family members. I think your lace dress is perfect for an outdoorsy ranch wedding. And personally I never agree that a dress has to match a venue anyways. You’re the bride, you won’t look out of place regardless of what type of dress you wear!

I think the dress looks stunning on you and I would not worry about it clashing with the venue. I think it is actually a nice contrast 🙂

I’m in the boat that a bride can wear whatever dress she wants no matter where the wedding is. That dress looks amazing on you and certainly will look great in any setting from beach to ranch to garden and anything in between.

You look beautiful, and I think the dress will be just fine!
If you still feel bad about it, though, you might consider removing some of the sequins. That’s really the only thing I can see that makes it less to your theme. Definitely don’t feel like you have to get an all new dress, though!

Oh don’t regret this! Your dress is perfect and you look amazing!

I’ve actually seen dresses similar to yours at even more rustic locations, so I think it’s perfect–and you look lovely!

This dress is stunning on you 🙂

The BEST advice I can give you: don’t show anyone pictures of your dress (except us on the Bee!).
You look gorgeous in your dress — I have no idea how anyone could say anything negative about it at all. Ignore them. It will look fantastic in any setting.

I think it’s gorgeous and appropriate

Wow! You look fantastic in that dress! It will work just fine at your ranch resort. I wouldn’t worry about it. 🙂

OMG it’s GORGEOUS! Don’t let their remarks get to you. You look great. It will look fine in an outdoorsy wedding! Believe me, once the day comes and everyone sees how beautiful you look-they wont even be thinking things like that. Keep it, keep it, keep it! 🙂

I think your dress is perfect and fits in any setting. It isn’t over the top in any directions and you look amazing in it. I have (in my short planning experience) learned that everyone has an opinion of what they have invisioned for you and don’t realize that their vision isn’t your dream. Don’t let them get to you and know that you are going to be the most perfect and beautiful you on your day (your day not theirs)!!!

How is it inappropriate for a ranch? What we they expecting you to wear? Jeans and a cowboy hat? It is a wedding and you have to wear a beautiful dress 🙂
I think its perfect, lace is romantic and has a vintage feel, I think it fits prefectly with your setting.
