I bought a dress from a rack sale for only $300….its perfect but a little too long…so maybe not too perfect. I don’t want to hem the dress due to the lace detail, I can wear 5 inch heels comfortably, but it is still about a half inch to long. My question is: what is an acceptable length for my dress, should it be perfect and not drag a little?

I would want it to be hemmed professionally – I would be worried about me or someone else stepping and tearing the dress if it was dragging a bit!
It actually happened to me at my prom when I took my shoes off and my dress was too long!

i think it varies from dress to dress. i was told my dress was sposed to be 1/2 inch from the ground – which caused all sorts of fun for my fitting. because of the way it drapes, it’s very hard for my dress to be of an even length!
are you sure you’d want to be wearing 5″ all day? they may be able to take some off while preserving the lace detail.

With a lot of lace dresses, they’ll take the whole lace part of the skirt off, take the length from the top of the skirt and sew it back on, thereby preserving the lacy scallops. 🙂

My 5 inch heels are platforms which makes them about 3 1/2 inch. Thanks for your replies…I didn’t think about the part of taking off my shoes. I will get it altered.

you’d have to stay in those heels all night long! OR get really high flip flops!
