You can bring it as carry on, where they store it can change.

It depends on the flight attendents on your flight… sadly. American Airlines told me that the only way to make sure they hang the dress in the 1st class cabin is by booking first class. If there isn’t room in the 1st class cabin, they’ll have you lay it on top of luggage or by itself in the overhead compartment. Let your crew know it’s your wedding dress at the gate and hopefully they aren’t bitter and take care of it for you!!!

UMM Yeah I am 2 1/2 weeks out and finally called spirit and they said they had NO CLOSETS on the aircraft. That has to be bull. They said I can bring it as a carry on and put it verhead or ON MY LAP!! I am betting and hoping when I get there and kindly ask them if there is room for it somewhere safe!! 🙁

My mom is a Southwest employee and she once told me that if brides come on the plane with a wedding dress and the flight is booked, their only option is to put the dress in the overhead compartment or under their seat.  She said that her planes, for the most part, don’t have closets for passengers to use.  You just need to hope you get lucky and have a flight with an extra empty seat and a friendly attendant.

I’d recommend calling ahead and seeing what the airline you’re using says.  I think it’s different for many of them.

I always tell my clients to contact the airline and see what options they have.  Some planes do not have closets and you will have to put it in the overhead compartment. No matter what, make sure to pack/stuff it properly and open it up to let it breathe when you get to the hotel.

IF….. major IF… your flight attendants are nice enough, sometimes you can talk them in to putting it in THEIR closet. Depends on airline and attendant. If they do, you’ll usually get a speech about how “they can’t guarantee and are not responsible”

Otherwise, put it overhead and close the door. If someone goes to use it go bridezilla 🙂

I bought my dress as a sample while visiting my sisters up in Northern California. I took Southwest back to Los Angeles with it. They let me place it in the closet right by the doorway. My dress is chiffon so it wasn’t very bulky, but the closet was too short for it.

If your dress isn’t too large, it is much hang it on a dress form and then fold it and put it in a carry on size box.

I was able to hang my dress in the first class cabin closet, but that was only because there was space and my dress could fold in half.

If you are really worried, you can buy a box to pack it in (there are special boxes for wedding dresses, and some wedding dress stores will do this for you as a courtesy) and then put it in the overhead bin. Then just steam the dress when you get to your destination.
