Are they nearby?  Is there any way that you can go and see the dress in person first?  I would be anxious otherwise since there aren’t any return policies for craigslist.

I am pretty sure crebre bought her dress on craigslist but as @MissAsB said, I would definitely make sure it is something you could check out first and make the exchange in person. There is really no other way to protect yourself with craigslist , even craigslist says to only deal locally.

I bought a beautiful wedding dress for my daughter (never worn) via Craigslist.  I paid via paypal.

I’ve gotten a few on Craigslist before to have fun with and trash… sometimes you can get great deals! If she’s local, when you go pick it up you could make sure it’s right…

I’d be afraid to buy anything I can’t see before I do.  But that’s just  me.  My Maid/Matron of Honor buys a bunch of stuff on craigslist, some of which she doesn’t see beforehand and she’s been lucky.  If you do end up buying it, and even if you pay with paypal, make sure you give yourself enough time to remedy any potential situation.

I had a good experience with Craigslist, but the girl had also posted her dress to the classifieds here and ebay.  She was super nice.  We emailed back and forth.  I saw a picture of her in the dress.  She insured it for the full replacement value before she shipped it.  It was brand new and had only been worn when she tried it on before picking it up at the Pronovias flagship store in NYC.  She sent me the nice Pronovias bag and everything.

So, all in all, I had a great experience (and bought a beautiful dress for 1/3 the price for a new one).  I would recommend it, but ask LOTS of questions first.  Use Paypal for the payment so you can dispute the transaction if it doesn’t arrive as promised.

Good luck!

I use craigslist all the time (both to buy and sell) and I have only had positive experiences. Everyone I met was very nice. You can bring a friend with you to try the dress on for safety’s sake.

I also bought my dress on CL. It was a new dress and I got it for half price, which was fabulous. I paid through Paypal and had the seller insure it, and I felt very comfortable with the seller based on our email exchanges. The only minor problem was a couple of small spots near the bottom of the dress, but I actually didn’t notice them until later, so I could see how the seller may have missed them as well. They’re very small though and don’t bother me. Moral of the story though: get LOTS of pics!
