Question- why would you put a hoop in it?

After the ceremony, I would bustle the back up. That will still give you the ruffles but pull the train up so that you can dance and sit easily.

can you use a petticoat/crinoline instead of a hoop?

The dress looks like it has good volume already, I would vote for a crinoline – but you might need a mermaid one – it looks like you have a drop waist.

I just put a crinoline under my dress so when I sat, I just sat on all of it.  After the ceremony, the train was bustled so it was like sitting on a big pillow.

I second crinoline… A seamstress could help.  If not, perhaps they could make accomodations for you to stand in the ceremony?
