Yes, absolutely. I almost always wear long dresses and patterned ones always strike me as a littel more fun, so it will work even for a cocktail party IMO.

@starrynight:  That’s interesting you said that. I like long dresses because you can’t see what my legs are doing when I’m dancing (if that makes sense) but you’re right, I see a lot of people going for short dresses. Perhaps it’s the weather? That being said, I think a long, classy dress is still very much in style, especially in a nice pattern and fabric.

I think a lot of people wear short dresses because there are just a lot more short dresses available at the typical department or similar store. Usually to find a long dress you have to go to the “fancy” dress section where a lot of dresses are a little too glamorous (and possibly too expensive!) for the average wedding. But I don’t think a long dress, in and of itself, would ever be inappropriate for an evening wedding.

Also as a shorter gal it’s easier for me to wear a cocktail length dress and not have to have it altered.
