I bought a used dress for $50 and am having it altered for $120… I made the decision pretty quickly (I figured “Why not? It’s only $50!”), and I’m starting to have some reconsiderations. I won’t say “dress regret” because I definitely feel beautiful in my dress. I just worry that I didn’t go “big” enough for my one and only chance to wear a wedding dress. I think it might not be blingy enough (although I’ve been trying to bling it up more with the necklace and tiara).
I’ve had two dress fittings, but it’s not quite there yet. The seamstress took in the bodice too much, and she hasn’t actually cut the dress to make the sweetheart neckline yet. I’m worried about how the bodice will turn out. Here’s a pic from my fitting today:
Here’s Mori Lee 1909. I’d probably get it in White. Other bees have said it’s super sparkly. I tend to prefer A-Line dresses, but this fit-n-flare is so subtle that I really like it. It might actually go with my venue best, but I don’t care to make my decision based on venue =)
Here’s Casablanca 2098. This dress makes me swoon. Princess-y and beautiful!
Do you think I should stick by my original dress, no doubt, or do you think I should start looking for a place to try on one of these dresses?

If you feel beautiful in your dress, I think you should stick with it. I think it will look great once all of the alterations are done 🙂 The shape is lovely on you. And such a good deal!! (ps you’re very pretty)

I think your original dress is beautiful and if you’re worried about bling, you can always buy some crystals and ask the seamstress to sew it on places you want it.

I think your original dress is really pretty. I also think the dress will be more striking (and your neck and shoulders will look elegant) if you skip the necklace. That big statement piece is kinda overwhelming to me.

I like the Mori Lee and Casablanca, to be honest. I voted for the Mori Lee because I really like the way the skirt flares out, and the way the beading scatters down gradually. While your current dress is very pretty, I don’t think it does justice to your figure – especially around the waist.

Hmm, I like the dress you have now, actually, but that Casablanca dress is gorgeous!!
I’d say wait until the alterations are done, and as sruan said you can add more crystals to bling it up more… but, if you *still* have ‘reconsiderations’ and you have enough time before your big day, you’re not cutting a big loss to go shopping for a new one 🙂

@sunsetchristy: Your original dress is lovely on you, but I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say try on those dresses…especially the one that makes you swoon. I would hope for you that you could be absolutely in love with your dress, and that it would make you swoon. 🙂 It seems you’d like to explore and experience it all a little more, so go for it.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! The critiques were helpful, and the compliments made me smile. I think I might just call some places to find out if they carry the otherdresses, and set some alerts on preownedweddingdresses.com just to see if they come up… I definitely won’t make any decisions until my dress is finished, though. The seamstress is doing it all in small pieces, so I hope that means it’ll fit great when it’s all done in about 6 weeks or so.
@geekspice: The necklace might be too much. I’m really struggling with bling vs simplicity! I might bring a more simple necklace with me and try some photos without one and do some comparisons.
I agree with the dress not doing much for me right now. The seamstress still has more fabric to cut out and she says it’ll lay flatter/tighter once it’s all pressed. I’m hoping when the bodice is finished, it’ll all have a nice shape to it!

You look gorgeous in your current dress. I would say at least go and try other dresses out, see if you love them more than in your dress, because you only get to be in your wedding dress once, so why not seeking out for the best that you can. I prefer Mori Lee btw.
