I’ve lurked on here for quite some time but this is my post. You all provide such wonderful, honest advice 🙂 I’m sad to say that I’m having some dress regret and need advice. I originally envisioned a lace gown, somewhat form fitted. I had nearly decided on a dress that fit that vision when I went shopping one more time and ended up buying my dress. It is completely different than what I envisioned, but it’s beautiful. Simple, elegant and something a bit different than everything else I’m seeing lately. I loved it on the day, but will admit I was caught up in everyone elses excitement over the dress.
For the past few months everytime I look back at it, I don’t think it does anything for me. It feels like a beautiful dress, that I don’t feel that beautiful in. I was hoping I would feel differently after “my” dress came in, but I can’t shake the feeling.
My dress when I bought it:
My dress now (excuse the poor pictures). The chest needs taken in and straps shortened.
A few picturse of dresses I’ve tried more closely aligned with my original vision. The top dress is the dress I almost bought (don’t have great pictures of the front), and the ones below that are some Lulus ones I ordered recently just for the style/shape of the dress.
The dress on Etsy I’m considering ordering. I would have the top lined though on the front so that it is not sheer (it would still be sheer on the back). While I don’t want to spend more money, this dress won’t break the bank. The biggest risk is that I would obviously have to order without trying it on, although the reviews on the dress and salon are very positive.
Help! Am I overreacting? Or should I take a chance on the Etsy dress? I think my friends/family are inclined to vote for my current dress because I already have it and committed to it, so I want outside opinions. Thank you!!
For reference, our wedding is in May and the ceremony and reception will be indoors. Guys are wearing Navy and ladies are wearing floor length gown in a taupe color.

I do like the dress that you bought. Its very elegant, and I think it will look much better once you have it altered. If you’re hooked on the lace, consider buying a lacey jeweled belt that you can put over the fitted area! I have seen them on etsy all over the place. This way you don’t have to replace the dress you’ve already gotten and you can still add a flair to it 🙂 A drop necklace would also look gorgeous with your dress. It’s all about the accessories! I think everyone has doubts about their dress – that there are a ton of “prettier” ones out there and it is easy to get distracted, but I think if you liked it enough to purchase it in the first place then you should stick with it!

Both are lovely dresses, but you have such a great figure you could totally pull off a more form-fitted dress! And I think you’re right that a lace sheath dress will make you feel more at east in your venue, which looks so cool, by the way 🙂

I really like your current dress …. super timeless and classy. But, I also really like the Etsy one (the Lulus ones look sort of cheap, honestly (sorry)). Is it in your budget to do both – the original for the ceremony and the Etsy one for the reception?
PS – I was a dress-regret bride too, and after much contemplation, I finally decided to sell my original dress and get a new one that fit my vision. And I’m really glad I did! Ultimately it doesn’t matter what others think; you just need to be happy and comfortable on the big day!

so normally I love classic, understated gowns but I can sort of see why this one is underwhelming you. I’m not sure if it will perk up with the skirt steamed and a petticoat of sorts to give it some body, or if it’s that the sheath that is at the top is so fantastic on your figure.
my concern is will any of these cheaper dresses give you the same look. If they won’t, it’s not worth it IMO, because your dress is pretty on you and very bridal.
You don’t need structure with your figure, but what makes that inspo sheath back so great on you is the way your waist goes in and the back lace captures that. If you can find a similar back, you might feel the same about it. I don’t feel like the lulu’s have the same wow factor at all. The lace looks stretchy and so it’s not giving the same effect.

I don’t love your dress, but I bet I would after it was altered. However if it won’t break the bank to buy the Etsy one….just do it. You can sell either dress (for much less than you paid, but still) and it sounds like it’s worth the money to you to be sure either way.
ETA: I DO love the Etsy dress. Looks like it has the elements you like about your dress and the one you almost bought.

Thanks for your feedback so far! Just to clarify, I didn’t buy the Lulu’s dresses with the intention of wearing them in exchange for my current dress, I just wanted to have a fitted lace dress available at home to try on next to my dress if that makes sense.
As for the budget – While I obviously didn’t budget for buying two dresses, I could afford the Etsy option without too much heartache. Worst case, if it doesn’t work out, I have my current dress to fall back on. It would just feel really wasteful if that happened!

I think the dress you have is beautiful! once it is altered and and you’re all done up, it’ll feel completely different.

I think the dress you already own is beautiful, and if you wore I think you would look lovely and no one would think anything otherwise. That said, I think you look amazing in the mermaid fit (which I usually don’t like) and I do really, really love the Etsy one. I honestly think if you’re still feeling iffy now that your dress has come in I would get the Etsy! It will look amazing on you, and even if it doesn’t, you’ll have a backup like you said. And you can always sell the one you dont wear!

The dress you have bought is beautiful and you look wonderful in it . The others are nice , but quite run of the mill by comparison. Fitted lace has been everywhere for ages and, I think, has had its day . Your classic will never have had its day , it is timeless

I absolutely adore the dress you have, it’s exactly the style I love and I think once it’s altered it will look perfect on you… that being said, The back of that lace dress looks amazing on you (not so keen on the front at all) When I imagine you in your venue though, I think I maybe see you more in the lace style.

I love your current dress, but then again I love that kind of style so it’s probably my bias speaking. And I think you look beautiful in it, but I doubt that anything any of the Bees could say could really convince you if you don’t think you look your best.
The only thing I can add is not to order from that particular Etsy store. They might say they’re from San Diego but they are just another Chinese factory with a US warehouse. I think they delete sales on Etsy to inflate their review ratings. For that price, I wouldn’t risk it.

I love your first dress. Is it silk chiffon? That fabric flows so beautifully! Also think about the fact that a fitted lace dress will not be comfortable to sit in, and if it’s strapless will have boning which also isn’t comfortable. You look great in all of them because of your figure.
I agree with trying a lace topper for the ceremony if you want to incorporate some lace.

I love your first dress!! I am sure that once it’s altered, it will be perfect. It’s timeless and romantic and seriously beautiful!! …. not to mention regal looking. I LOVE IT!
If you feel that it’s understated, add a beautiful necklace or earrings… maybe think of veil that’s all lace or lace trimmed bc I think you have lots of accessory options with the dress you have.
All of the above said…. you can have 100’s of opinions from internet strangers, but YOU have to love it! You do you, bee 🙂 You have a lovely figure so I am sure that you will look beautiful in whatever option you end up choosing. I would love to know what you ultimately end up doing!!

Nothing wrong with the etsy dress, it is perfectly nice. But your dress is a stunner! Wow! So I know which one I’d choose, no questions about it 🙂
