First post im just 3-4 weeks from my wedding, I love my dress Essence of Australia D1520 (sweetheart full lace A-line with grey sash), however I have looked online and have fallen in love with similar dresses with lace cover up (see example picture), I know ive probably left it too late (perhaps this is just last minute nerves) but do you think it’s fine as it is or should I look to have something custom made to have a lace front and back over the sweetheart neck line? Would it matter if the lace didnt match perfectly? I’m a size UK8-10 (US 4/6) so I dont mind having my arms on show its just I love the vintage look of the lace top – HELP! x

tessablue: I think the dress is beautiful as is, but I understand what you’re going through. A month or so before my wedding, I ordered a lace cover up from Tulip Bridals. It arrived the day before my wedding! I wore it part of the time. Do what makes you feel comfortable.

I think your dress is gorgeous. I will warn you that while those illusions necklines are very pretty, most are scratchy and uncomfortable. I would try on a dress that has one before you order one.

I think your dress is lovely as it is and at only a size 8-10 you certainly won’t have anything you need to cover up! I’d also say that you are almost certainly out of time to be ordering anything else, let alone a whole new dress. But why not try on a lace cover-up and see what you think?

Steampunkbride: yes I will try but my bridal shop doesn’t stock any (I want a sleeveless cover up- hard to find)not a bolero which seem to be everywhere. I think I’m just worrying unnecessarily. I was trying to help a friend find her dress and stumbled across the example picture – you shouldn’t look when you’ve already bought – lesson learned!

tessablue: I’d just get a shrug. You can google bridal shrugs, or there is some inspiration on the stephanie allin website, I’ve seen shrugs called Garbo, Selena, Loren, Yasmin and a flower-type one..
It could change the whole look of your dress if you want a new angle on it

I love your dress as is! I too have the same yearning for lace tops. You can always order a lace cover up like this:

Thanks ladies, I had a fitting yesterday and it just looked beautiful. I think unless I was able to match the lace perfectly it may look odd but thanks for your replies – so relieved I felt like a princess!
