So I have been meaning to write this post for a bit. I love reading about weddings. Not just the guest list problems and the ponderings of jewelry selection – but the anthropology of weddings. Why we think the way we do about certain choices we make.
The wedding dress is one of those. This is the ‘one day’ where we want (i.e. absolutely need) to look as best as we can. Well, at least most of us. And many of us are second guessing and lamenting over our choices day in and day out (and especially as we are trying to sleep at night). We all know that one dress over another is such a small issue in the grand scheme of our marriage. But, we freak out anyways.
I for sure did. I ordered my first dress without trying it on. It looked fantastic going down the runway and the color was perfect. I didn’t want to make a fuss about getting a dress. I just wanted it to be simple with color. But, when it got to me. Eah. It was okay. It certainly looked pretty on me and it fit. But it wasn’t good enough for OMG MY WEDDING DAY. If this were any other event I would have been highly satisfied with my choice. I looked two feet taller than my 5 ’10 stature and my shoulders looked like a linebackers’ with my little head perched on top. Well, at least I can see these defects.
But it wasn’t right so I chose a backup dress. Straight from China through Ebay for 50 dollars. If it didn’t look good, whatever. The price was nothing. I told them what color I wanted and that I wanted some extra fabric added to the train.
I came. It was beyond perfect. I had that moment of yes this is what I’m going to wear. And dear lord, it has the most perfect enormous train. Yes.
Has anyone else decided to go straight down crazy bridal brain lane and buy that second dress to overcome their regret?

Great choice!! Looks amazing!

@Selcier: No bridal regret for me, but i HAD to comment and say your “backup” dress is INCREDIBLE. You look like a red carpet goddess.

That dress was $50?! Looks amazing!! Great choice – what company was it from?

The one shoulder dress is GORGEOUS!

@Miss_Magoo82: The company was qq_dress on ebay. Now, it was a simple design – I would be more wary about getting something with lace or lots of beading. But their communication was awesome!

you look stunning in both.

@Selcier: love the color, the train, the fit 🙂 🙂 :)– cannot wait to see your recap!!

Your decision was spot on- I don’t typically like one shoulder dresses but the second one is fantastic on you. Great choice, and what a beautiful color!

Yes, I had a similar experience. I picked out my first dress, which was beauitful on me, and showed off my figure. It was romantic lace and very simple. They forgot to order my dress at my dress shop, and I had a melt down.
As you can imagine, I went to a different dress shop to order a new one. My second dress is super girly, frilly, sparkley, totally not me. But it’s got the va va voom factor I want on MY wedding day.
I considered having a ceremony and reception dress, but it’s a very low key venue, and doesn’t really go with my style to switch mid evening.
So, obvi you’ll look gorgeous either way. The question is, what do you want to feel like on your wedding day, and which dress makes you feel that way?

@Selcier: frankly i love BOTH dresses. you have an amazing statuesque figure for both gowns.
the dress is a tricky mental exercise for so many brides. there’s so much more internal struggle that goes on than i ever would have imagined. i definitely lost some sleep over my choice and came extremely close to buying a second dress. but practicality won me over and i stuck to my first choice. but i can easily imagine having bought a second dress and getting bowled over.
that blue is dramatic and unique – you will be a smashing bride. congrats!

The dress is beautiful!!!!!! Can I ask where you got it from???

Wow that dress is gorgeous!!! It would look really awesome with a blingy sash on mesh if you wanted to “jack it up”.

I really love both dresses, but the first dress looks too big on you and the second one fits you like a glove! And I agree – that train is fabulous.

That is one fabulous wedding dress! I love it! Looks so much more elegant too.
I had dress regret. I ended up buying FIVE dresses. #3 ended up being “the one.” I sold the rest.
