Ladies – I am getting nervous about my decision to wear a non-white wedding gown. I have a diamond white/light ivory gown. It is pretty noticeable that it is not white. I thought a white would be to stark on my Pacific islander skin tone, but now I am feeling a little regret … Any experience or thoughts you can share? Thank you.

@GMelanie: I work in a bridal boutique and the owner says it best, “You are wearing your shade of white.”
I can relate to pure white being harsh – I’m very fair and it washed me out. I went with more of a champagne color (but wearing white wasn’t a bige deal for me).
I personally think off whites photograph better, too (:

Looks like a gorgeous dress to me! Personally, I much prefer ivory tones, they look so sophisticated and pretty. If that is what matches your skin, that is what you should get. I promise that nobody on the day will be thinking “but it is ivory, not white!”. It is so close in tone that it isn’t worth stressing about.

@GMelanie: For what it’s worth, I think your dress is absolutely stunning!I’m sure you’ll look so fabulous that I doubt anyone will pay attention to the color.
Personally, I really love Ivory gowns. I think they are lovely–especially since they make white lace details stand out more. I’ll probably be wearing one myself when I walk down the aisle.

All the ivory dresses I tried on looked too yellow on me. I am hapa, but not overly dark. White looked infinitely better on me.

This is one of those details that brides stress over but nobody else notices or cares. To you it might be obvious that it’s not white, but everyone else will still look at your gown and think it’s white.

For most people, ivory is white. If you say that your dress is ”not white” a non-bride/friend/family member is going to assume that you mean red/pink/black or other actual colour. All that anyone will care about is that you are up there getting married. Go with what suits you best.

I agree with everyone else! That dress is gorgeous! No one will notice the shade of white unless your Fiance is wearing a bright white tux. Either way, you will be beautiful!

Mine is ivory (its silk, I don’t think silk even gets all the way white) but the one pure white dress I tried on looked AWFUL on me, it made me look yellow. Your dress will still look traditional!

@GMelanie: Good luck with your decision!

Diamond white is a blend of white and ivory so that its not quite either one, just somewhere in the middle right? I think you made the right choice, I chose diamond white and it looks white to me, the actual white is almost blinding, lol. If the pic you posted is your actual dress then I wouldnt worry about it, it looks more white than ivory.
