Wait for final results on 1st dress, return 2nd dress

Keep 2nd dress with pick ups

Keep 2nd dress, remove pick ups

Return 2nd dress, wait until a better dress shows up

@eosin:  I would go with the second dress. I think it looks more bridal.

I really like dress 1 on you. It is so pretty. I am not a fan of the pick ups on dress 2 but it still looks good on you.

Judging by the inspiration photos you posted, you might want to consider getting a dark red replica of Vera Wang’s Gemma gown made by Jasmine’s Bridal Shop. They’ve done it before and it looks beautiful. I don’t like your chances of turning the Nordstrom’s dress into something similar because it really needs to be a tulle/organza base to get the ruffles like that. You may, however, be able to turn it into something like Monique Lhuillier’s Peony (which has pick-ups, but is softer and more modern).

I’m not loving your first dress at all, to be honest. I think the asymmetrical sleeve is distracting and trendy, and to be honest I wouldn’t work with a designer who is too much of a diva to take into consideration his client’s wishes.

Dress 2 is beautiful on you! I think it also makes you look taller and more feminine than dress 1.

I think it’s obvious your not entirely happy with either dress. I prefer the second one, but it has a huge feature on it you don’t like = not the right dress. I defintely would not try to open the pickups and turn them into ruffles. They just are not the right fabric to form that shape. If you remove them and replace with tulle or organza, you’ll end up with a weird looking dress, with a heavier fabric on top and all this light fluffy stuff coming out the bottom and a dress you can’t return.

I do think that the second dress is a great silohette on your though, much better than the first dress. The natural waist and the cut of the skirt is just aging and you look very youthful with a great body that is hidden by this dress. I also think the sleave makes it look like half of the top of the dress is missing. Also all that lace and crystal stuff looks quite old. It’s something I would imagine an older woman wearing to a charity benefit. If it’s not at all what you asked for I’d be tempted to refuse to pay for it.

Have you tried asking at any bridal stores if they can order any of the dresses in red for a bit extra? Otherwise I would maybe try another dress maker and bring a picture of your ideal dress for them to copy.

The first dress just doesn’t feel bridal to me. The second one definitely does, and I adore the colour, it’s like red velvet instead of fire hydrant. I hope things work out for you and you end up happy!

@eosin:  The first dress…would be so amazing if it wasn’t for the weird half sleeve.  I don’t know…it isn’t flattering and just looks like they didn’t finish it…or something. I LOVE the lace bodice…and i think if it was either all strapless or had both sleeves it would be perfect on you.  But that 1/2 sleeve? not a fan.  I think the 2nd dress looks amazing on you though…and IMO you really don’t need to change anything

I Love the second dress. If you get a pair of spanx you will be fine. Everyone gets a little pooch right after dinner.

Here’s my take:  deep down, I think you don’t’ feel either gown is “the one” cuz you don’t HAVE a bridal gown — with either!  What you have on both accounts are two PROM gowns.  That’s the honest truth.

Secondly, you say you ordered a CUSTOM gown, yet you didn’t see or understand the lace or the pattern?  What kind of communication is that in custom work?  Now, that hemlength is obviously his goof, as he measured it.

If your theme is cherry blossom, why not a proper pink shade of a wedding gown?

@Baron:  A dress is bridal because a bride wears it. Period. The white wedding dress thing has only been in vogue for 100ish years. Pink is no more a proper bridal color than red or blue or black or white. Not everyone wants a white dress, and not all cultures partake in that relatively new tradition. Many Asian cultures consider red the “proper” color, which might be OP’s situation (or she just wants a red dress!).

I’m not a fan of  your picks. You are very petite and the first dress looks just weird in my opinion. The second one is a lot better.
