I went to Davids Bridal to get a dreamy, whimsical A-Line dress. I originally wanted the Adorae by Maggie Soterro. When I showed the picture to my fiance, he said he doesn’t like Mermaid dresses because they make people look too “hippy” in the frame.
I went to Davids and they did not have my a-line in stock so I tried to find a mermaid that I liked. I ended up buying the third dress I tried on. She brought me an A-Line, but it was a dropped waist. Not what I wanted so I passed I’m 5’2″ so it didn’t work for me.
Well, I’ve been having second thoughts about my dress for 3 weeks now. I just picked it up on Sunday and I don’t have the same feelings. I never had a moment with it either. The girls that saw me put it on loved it, but I figured it was what I was looking for so I bought it. I can exchange it. Sorry for the terrible posture, I was laughing and my mom took the pictures.
Today I stopped in and there it was. My original dress that was out of stock.. Now I don’t know what to do!!? I want my wedding to be classic, but memorable. Fun and classy. Help!
Dress A: New one I picked out. L9479
Pros: Comfortable, Bridal feeling, Very pretty
Cons: Maybe too predictable? Beading does not show up well in pics
Dress B: Original dress bought. V3476
Pros: Unique, Form Fitting (plan on losing weight and toning)
Cons: Tafetta is loud, very figure forming (have to get a nonpush up bra, they gave me one in the picture so my boobs are like popping out sorry lol)

@Beeloved86: They are both lovely dresses, but I think A is much more flattering to your figure.

I like the original one (the mermaid) way more 🙂 If you have the hips, flaunt them! They’re what make women WOMEN!

The new, a-line one is more flattering to your figure than the mermaid. And since you originally wanted an a-line and your fiance also said he doesn’t like mermaids, I think you should definitely go a-line.

I’m going to say neither. I think the A-line shape is more flattering to your figure than the fit and flare, but I think the horizontal lines on the skirt (the pick-ups) have the effect of making you look shorter.
For you, therefore, I would pick a dress with the style of the second, but the a-line silhouette of the first. Like these DB ones:
The David’s Bridal Woman collecion also has a few a-lines with side draping/ruching. While their smallest sizes are 14W, you could always get it adjusted down to fit you.

I vote the first one. The second doesnt look right for your figure.

I prefer the original dress on you. I don’t think it makes you look hippy at all. Did you show him the picture of YOU in it or just an ad with a mermaid style gown?

The A line gown you have pictured is the same one I wore for my wedding! It looks fabulous on you!

The first one is way more flattering and makes you look very slim! I think it’s very classy and somewhat whimsical looking! I love it! 🙂

@MrsD2Be: I never showed him my dress with me in it. Just the dress in a magazine along with many others. He just hates mermaids. He said he hated that mermaid one too. I never told him that was the one i got.

@Beeloved86: I think both look gorgeous! Go try that other dress on and exchange it if you like the one you originally wanted more! 🙂 DO WHAT YOU WANT!

I love the first one! I do agree about it not showing up well in these photos. Maybe the photographer will have some suggestions and probably a really great camera! BEEautiful!

the A line one for defs is my favourite 🙂

I like the A line one. The mermaid is nowhere near as flattering and it is defiinitely the most important thing to get something flattering.

I actually went to David,s bridal this weekend and dress B was one of the dresses I tried on. It was my second favourite of all the dresses I tried on. Idid not buy it because i didn’t feel like a bride and I realized I love the ruffles type. Im 5’2 too and found a few fit and flares made my hips too big as well. however dress A is my fave on you.
