So I wanted to write a post and share my experience from buying a wedding dress online from China. When I was searching and didn’t find too much info, reviews, or pictures of dresses from there so I’d like to help out future brides by posting about mine.
So far I haven’t gotten my dress yet, but have recieved pictures from them.
But here’s my process thus far…
I ordered my dress 2/22/2013 with my credit card but used a different number associated with my card. Most credit card companies allow you to do so especially for buying items online so people don’t get your real card number. So I highly recommend that just for security.
In their note section, I wrote a VERY detailed explaination of what I wanted. That was because the dress I wanted on there originally they had taken down and I sent a photo and asked if they could make it still, they said yes. BUT, I had to make the order through a link of a different dress so they could still charge me the same price.
After payment went through, they sent me an e-mail about when my dress should be done by and shipped, which was 3/23/2013. About a week before the deadline, I started getting anxious and somewhat frantic about my dress after finding a Youtube review by a girl who also bought her dress from Bridesire.com and the mistakes she noticed. Here’s the link… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sDr5bPKToc
So I started to panic a little and chatted with a rep online asking if they could send pictures before shipping my dress. (They’re in China so they’re only on at night and reply to e-mails at night for us in the US.) But they kept replying that “since our dress send out directly from our workshop , we can not take the photo for you”.
I think they have pre-populated answers for them to reply to you with because they kept saying similar answers. So I began to get a little frustrated and aggressive, stating that it shouldn’t be that difficult to have them take photos for you to send to me. But eventually, they caved in and said they would see what they could do. That was good enough for me that they said they would try, even though I thought it was unlikely! haha
But soon that deadline had passed. So I e-mailed them asking about the status, and they were very apologetic about the delay and asked when I needed it by. I told them I wanted with me within 2 weeks so I could get alterations if necessary. They said that it’d be done by then.
Three days later, I started panicking again! (ha!) And e-mailed them asking for the status of my dress and asked how far percentage wise they were and if they could still send pictures. They replied “We are almost done with your dress.”
Then, last night they sent me another e-mail with photos. This morning, I was very excited and saw that the dress is very similar to the picture of the dress I wanted. There are slight differences and the mistakes in the Youtube video the girl pointed out were seen in my dress as well. So I made notes on the photos and requested that they fixed them to what I originally asked.
Here are the photos of the dress I sent to them. It’s Maggie Sottero’s Bernadette and I just LOVE it! 🙂
Here are the pictures that they sent me! Which I am so grateful for!!! It really put my mind at ease seeing this!
I know the belt is not the same as the original photo, but it didn’t bother me. I figured it’s sparkly and pretty so it’s no big deal. If it was ugly, then I’d speak otherwise. 🙂
I am EXTREMELY happy with the bottom part of the dress! I wanted a trumpet/mermaid and this looks just like it! I also requested a small petticoat so it would flare out a little on it’s own and I wouldn’t have to buy one.
I am very happy with the overall shape of the dress! Looks just like the original! 🙂
Now onto the criticisms… The back of the dress was not like the original photo. It seems like they used a regular strapless dress and added on the lace… I still wanted the keyhole back and the scalloped edge. They also forgot to add a white satin bow I requested and sent pictures for in the original note order when I paid for the dress… So I sent them this to fix it.
A flaw that the girl in the Youtube video mentioned was that she didn’t have half of the hook to close the dress together after it was zipped so I mentioned this note just in case. 🙂
She also mentioned that it has the cute buttons over the zipper but when it’s zipped up, the buttons just puckers up and sticks outward instead of covering the zipper. Even if it isn’t fixed, I was hoping the bow would kind of keep it pressed down when it was added. :/
Another thing, maybe it was just the picture, but the neckline lace looked crooked. Perhaps it’s because the dress was too small on the mannequin and the picture made it look like it was shifted? I don’t know…
A BIG deal that was brought up by the girl in the Youtube video was that you can still see the fabric that the applique was cut from and added to the lace. I could even see it in the pictures… So I requested that they nicely trim the edges so it wasn’t so obvious…
I also requested a french bustle but they didn’t send a pic of it bustled, so I asked for one of those and sent the pic below to make sure they did it like that. So they might have done it but I couldn’t tell… I also wanted a wrist loop too, so I sent this more as a reminder… haha
Well that’s all I have so far… I sent them the pics today so hopefully they’ll get to it in the next few days! 🙂
Feel free to ask questions! I’ll try to answer quickly, but I’m in Physician Assistant School for my Master’s and may be busy studying/taking tests, etc.
