My Mom, My Sister and my Maid/Matron of Honor. They are all very honest with their opinions but not OVERLY opinionated (like one of my BMs). They know me the best and knew what looked more like “me” than anyone else could. I think three is a pretty good number as far as opinions. And good for you if you are that close to your future Mother-In-Law and SIL!

My mom is the only one that went with me.  I’m kind of glad because it would have been too crazy with a bunch of people.  It was already crowded in there.

@awpeele: I took my mom and maid of honor on one trip, then just my maid of honor on another trip (my mom lives several hours away). Two opinions other than mine were perfect… not overwhelming, but good feedback. For me, more than that would have been too many cooks in the kitchen. Then I started going alone because I wanted to look at more dresses and I was no where near making a decision. 🙂

Bring people you’re comfortable with and who you trust to tell you their honest opinions, but make sure you don’t feel pressured to agree with their opinions.

I took my mom, grandma and my two cousins. Originally we weren’t going to go shopping out in Cali (I’m from Colorado) but I decided that they would love to be in on this bit of planning and wouldn’t get any other opportunities, so we went!

I first went with my mom and sister, and my mom cried at like every dress and my sister kept calling me “michael’s craft store projects..” so i decided to go by myself after that. Later on after I figured out what I liked and didn’t like I took a good friend of mine who isn’t related- just to narrow it down, and then I emailed photos of the last two to help make the final decision. Definitely if you don’t know what you’re looking for at first go by yourself or with someone who isn’t too opinionated- that way you can get a feel for what feels right and you think you look good in, and not try on any of the others with your guests with you. Also I think it gave me more confidence and direction when it came down to the end 🙂

My mom and Maid/Matron of Honor came to all my dress shopping adventures. I liked having two other opinions, but I’m glad I didn’t have many more than that.

wow…i went with my moh and bm the first time…then just my moh…and then my litle sister. And decided to go alone. But honestly…even tho it’s a big NO NO. I went online and searched for dresses with my fi 🙂 he knows my style and what looks best on me better then anyone..

if I would do it again personally I would go wit everyone for kicks…but to actually pik THE dress deff alone or with the fi opinions in mind…for some reason bm’s feel all bridzilla when dress shopping…weird haha

I went a few times with different friends–7 people total, but only a couple each time.  Some are bridesmaids, others are just good friends.  But I flew home to go shopping with my mom, dad, and Maid/Matron of Honor, and that’s when I found my dress.

Out of all those people, none were very opinionated, and really only told me how they really felt about something after I asked several times.  If I knew any of them were super opinionated though I probably wouldn’t bring them, with the exception of my mom.  I would ask her no matter what because I know how much it means to her.  In the end, it really should be about what you want!  Good luck in your search!

Most of my trips, it was just myself and my mom.  One trip, over thanksgiving week, I brought my Maid/Matron of Honor, cousin, girl friend, and my mom.  It worked out pretty well – they had the perfect amount of opinions, and I eventually chose the dress we all loved on that trip (although I had to go back with my Dad, who helped me make my final choice).

Good luck dress shopping!

I took exactly the people that you’re thinking about taking… my mom, Future Mother-In-Law, and Future Sister-In-Law.  I don’t have any sisters (or siblings at all, actually) and 3 out of 4 of my BMs are out of state, so it was pretty easy to pick who came along.

I did go to a couple of shops with the Bridesmaid or Best Man that lives close to me though.  Just me and her went to a couple of shops later on in the week after the trip with my mom, Future Mother-In-Law, and Future Sister-In-Law.
