I started about 12 months before.

I’d err on the side of early – the bridal salons I went to offered general guidelines of 5-6 months to get the dress, and 2-3 for alterations.

Of course, if you buy a sample, it could just take a few weeks for cleaning and touchups.

I bought mine last week for my dec 2012 wedding, wont see it until july, maybe august.  I started shopping about 2 months ago.  Summer’s easier shopping time for me.

Also, howdy neighbor.  I’m in Philadelphia.  I went to a few NJ stores since theres no tax but ended up buying in NYC

most places advice that you buy the gown 7-9 months ahead of time. I bought mine at the 8 month mark, but started reall dress shopping at 9month mark.

I bought mine a year out and was quoted it would take least 8 months to come in.

I bought my dress about a year out. I think you are in the perfect time frame right now!! Good luck on your hunt for the perfect dress.
