I went shoping at The white gown in brooklyn and they have a lovely selection of dresses. And there is also Lovely bridal in manhattan. They both have a good mix of designers that are not at kleinfelds.

I second Lovely Bride.  Also, I struck out at the Bridal Garden, but I know two girls who found their dress there.

Wedding Atelier on 5th Avenue and 18th street. I found my dress there!

Birnbaum and Bullock in Manhattan. You get to work with the actual designers, they’re super nice, and the dresses aren’t crazy expensive. I got my dress at a sample sale there.

I suggest Bridal Reflections – I didn’t end up buying my dress there, but they had a wide range of designers and styles

Lotus Bridal in Brooklyn is amazing. I got my dress there. Customer service is excellent. They carry a good amount of designers. Alterations are inexpensive (under 300, whereas Kleinfelds is 700).

I had such a great experience at Lovely. They have many dresses in your budget. In fact, they told me none of their dresses were over 4,000.

I haven’t decided on my dress yet, but I would buy from them in heartbeat!

I just purchased my dress from Lovely 2 weeks ago for my April 2013 wedding. They have several interesting independent designers in addition to Watters, etc. They have lots available under 3k and the atmosphere is really cozy and intimate, definitely not the ‘stall’ experience that you’ll find elsewhere. I was not that impressed with The White Gown, though the women that worked there were lovely.

Does anyone have suggestions for NYC bridal salons that let you TAKE PICTURES when you try dresses on?  I want to be able to take pictures to show family/Weddingbee later and ask which dress they like better!  I went to RK Bridal yesterday but I can barely remember how my favorite dresses looked on me well enough to compare them… don’t think I’ll go back there.

@opalescent:  The only store that let me take pictures was Amsale/Kenneth Pool
