Hi Bees! I really want to go to David’s Bridal to dress shop as they are in my price range, and have a large selection of styles and types of dresses. A few people aren’t too keen on me going there since they’ve heard terrible things about service and what not, but I want to go on a weekday morning where there will be very few other people in the store. Problem is, my mom and Future Mother-In-Law work during the day. My Maid/Matron of Honor can go with me, but I guess my concern is that I’ll go, find the dress I love and then the moms will have missed the opportunity. Advice? Suggestions?
Did you find your dress on your first trip, or did it take a couple of times? Do you wish you had changed anything about your shopping experience?

first store, first dress (although I tried on about 5 more after just to be sure)

@vmec: That’s what worries me about the moms not going for the first trip! hmm…

If you find something you love, you can always go back with the moms and try it on again.

@The_Future_KB: I went to 4 stores total and found my gown at the last one. I actually went to David’s bridal first to hone in on the silouhette that I wanted. One thing you should know is that there are other bridal salons, at least in NY, that have gowns in the same price range(s) as David’s Bridal so I wouldn’t immediately rule out other salons. You should search online for gowns you like, see where those gowns are sold locally, and call up the salons to ask whether they carry gowns within your budget and verify that they have the dress you want to try on in stock. Happy shopping! It is so much fun!

i went to 6 stores.. 3 which i went back more than once..i tried over 50 dresses i think..
Out of all those, i only brought one of my bridesmaids with me to the first 2… My mom lives overseas.. plus i regularly shop by myself and wanted my wedding shopping be about what i want and not what others wanted to see me in 🙂
I would suggest you take pictures of the dresses you like on and take it home and reevaluate.. dont buy on the spot because the dress feels great in.. that way if you do decide then you can bring the whole group and have the bridal experience of saying yessss to the dresssss jeje

@ArtDecoLisa: I’m in Alabama, so we have fewer options, but still other places, so I’m trying to not pigeon hole myself. I figure it’s a good starting ground.
Yea, that’s good advice to not buy on the spot. I’ll probably have to sleep on it!

The first 2 stores weren’t really serious, just a last minute “why not” thing. First real store I went to was where I ended up finding my dress, althought I tried another 3 salons before making my final decision. I didn’t have anyone with me the first time I tried on my dress. Or the second. Honestly, it was nice to form an opinion on my own. And then I brought in my Maid/Matron of Honor to make sure I wasn’t being crazy and it really did look good. Then I did the family thing. I had a nice brunch with mimosas for my grandmother (who was paying for the dress), my step-mom and my aunt then we all went to the store and I tried on a few dresses but saved my favorite for last. They had a great time, I got the dress I wanted and we all got to do the wedding dress experience without the hassle and drama.
So I say go on your own during the day and narrow it down to a couple, then you can go with your mom and it will be easier since you’ve weeded through all the stuff you don’t like.

I had made 3 appointments for the day, but only ended up finding my dress at the second store and canceling the third appointment.

Technically, I found my dress on the first trip (first store!). But, it’s hard to make such a big decision so quickly! So I did some more shopping and tried on lots more dresses…. which helped to solidify that my dress was my dress. I brought the moms back to see that one and a few others, and then ordered.
I voted 4 stores, but just realized I went to 5.
