Would love some advice, I went dress shopping for the first time on Saturday, and I chose to go solo. I’m not totally where I want to be physically, and I just kind of wanted to see what was out there and what I like before I brought anyone along.
David’s Bridal was a total bust, I tried on a dress in each of the styles and found a few I liked, but they weren’t ‘it.’ Was able to find out what style looked best on me though. I was ready to call it a day, but on a whim I gave Demetrios a call because they have a dress that I’ve had my eye on for a few weeks. I called the store to see if they’d even have it in my size to try on. They ended up having something that I could try on and so I went in. I liked what I tried on, but I’m just not sure. I’m going to bring my mom in tonight check it out and see what she thinks.
But I’m hung up on a few things. Not the dress, because I think it’s doing all the ‘right’ things for me- it’s slimming, draws attention away from my problem areas, and flattering my assets. Here’ are my hangups:
1.) I’m losing weight- about 15 pounds in the last 1.5 months, and I’d like to lose about 75 or so before the wedding (May of 2015) I get that I can’t wait until I’m where I totally want to be but I’m wondering if I should pump the brakes a little bit to lose as much as possible before ordering:
- I want it to be at Demetrios by the end of March 2015 which will give us 2 months (8wks) for alterations.. they mentioned it would take ~8 months to come in.. so that makes me think I could safely order in August and have plenty of time. Does this sound flawed to any of you?
- I’ve been losing steadily 2-3 pounds a week for the past month and a half, so that could be a difference of around 30 pounds if I waited until August. I’m thinking 30 pounds will correlate to at least one dress size.. likely more than one.
- They have a 20% off ‘deal’ that ends today… I’m just thinking if I lose all the weight I’m wanting to, It’s probably going to need to be altered down several sizes.. so any potential savings might be negated by the excess amount of altering that will need to be done.
2.) I’m worried that since I didn’t have that cliche moment that we all see in the movies.. maybe this isn’t ‘the one’ how do you know when you’ve found it? Should I keep trying on more just for the sake of it? I do like this dress, I’d be happy wearing it although it isn’t at all what I’d been picturing all along. I don’t feel like I’m settling, but I guess I’m not 100% for sure this is ‘it’
Any thoughts/tips/advice? Maybe having my mom go tonight will make it clearer for me. She’s not one to sugarcoat things, so if she doesn’t like it this dress is likely going to be totally off the table and all of my overanalyzing will be for nothing. Just for fun, here is a picture of the dress that I’m interested in:
