@ladyamalthea:  I am a solitary person anyway, but I think dress shopping alone is great.  It eliminates the static of what other people think, because at the end of the day, it only matters what you like anyway! Have fun!

I didn’t go alone but I only took one of my bridesmaids with me both times I went and, honestly, it was very nice. It lets you breathe and not worry about looking good for anyone else (you know, problem areas you’re concerned about) and allows you to focus on you and the dress. I would have gone alone if my bridesmaid hadn’t chirped up and wanted to come along. Have fun! ๐Ÿ˜€

I wish I had gone once. I live less than 10 miles from Vows (From “I Found the Gown”), but I did all my dress shopping with my Mom and sisters in Vermont!

I found an AMAZING dress… But who knows what I might have found at Vows?

I wish I went alone. I felt like every time I opened the curtain, my mom had a comment before I could even come out and see myself in the mirror. I would have liked to have some time to form an opinion without being swayed.

I’m most likely going to end up going alone – my best Girlfriend here is not really a dressy-bridey type of person, and the one friend of mine here that was interested in going is tied up in getting ready to defend her dissertation for the next couple months. By then, I fear it will be too late.

I really could use the support as I’m a plussie and frankly, terrified of the dress-shopping process. I’ll have to see if I can rook a couple of my BMs into coming in from GA (where I used to live) to lend me some moral support.

The first two times, i went with friends and family, and did find a dress I loved.  But then, I started having second thoughts…. I felt I was getting a beautiful dress but not the dress that I should wear on my wedding day, despite what everyone said.  So I went back by myself, found the perfect dress that was really ME.  I love it, and so does my family.

I went alone a couple times, because it took me FOREVER to pick a dress and I felt bad dragging my family around so much. It was ok, but don’t feel as serious somehow. For me anyway. I never found a dress I loved on those trips.

I had both experiences. I started by going with my mom and sister (MOH). It was really important to me that I shared the first experience with them, and truthfully, that trip was more about “holy cow, she’s wearing a wedding dress” and not “let’s find the one.” I was too indecisive about what I wanted then, and I felt swayed by their opinions.

After that, I went several times on my own, and when I found a dress I liked, I would send a picture message. They would then come check it out in person.

Interestingly, I experienced a big difference in the attentiveness of the saleswomen if I did or didn’t have my entourage with me! When I went alone, I received a lot less help pulling gowns and trying them on. I actually that was ironic, since I was more willing to purchase alone!

@ladyamalthea:  I did it, I enjoyed it, and I ended up buying the gown I found when shopping alone!

I went to about nine places in total, and I went to one alone. It was one of my favorite expierences out of all of them! I felt the salesgirls fawned over me a lot more because I was alone, and I gladly lapped it up!

That being said, it isn’t where I bought my gown but it was my #2. If you go alone and find one you like, I would definitely bring someone back with you before you purchase… I just felt like seeing the look on my friend’s faces really helped with my decision.
