I know this may be a silly/dumb post… but I’m going dress shopping for the first time this upcoming Saturday and I’m beyond excited!
So… what do I need to do to prepare? What kind of bra/underwear do I wear for trying on dresses? Should I bring heels the same height I want to wear on the big day?
I know these are SUCH simple questions (especially coming from a girl who watches SYTTD all the time!) but I want to be fully prepared!
P.S. Today is my mom and dad’s 30th wedding anniversary and when I go dress shopping with my mom on Saturday, we are going to the SAME exact bridal store where she got her wedding dress! 🙂

I just went for the first time on Saturday- bring a strapless bra and wear nude panties- not a thong, you may be changing in front of your fam plus the consultant.

Awww! Your PS is so sweet!
I haven’t been yet, so I can’t give any tips, but I totally get your excitement 😀

try not to wear too much make up either, depending where you go they might frown on that. If you step into the dress though, it should not be a problem 🙂

as for the heels, you generally do not have to worry about that stuff until fitting day

My biggest advice is to do your hair and makeup! Obviously not to the extent that it will be on your wedding day, just make sure that it looks nice. I know that if I’m already feeling “blah” with barely any makeup on and my hair just thrown back I feel like everything looks bad. When you’re going to be looking in mirrors all day you just want to make sure that you feel pretty to start with 🙂

@Running Elley: Haha good point! I always make myself “put together” when leaving the house, even if I’m just going to the store! Thus, I will definitely make sure I have my hair and makeup looking good! I want to wear my hair half up-half down for the wedding, so it will be easier to envision than if I were dreaming of having a detailed up-do. I wear mineral makeup (not liquid) so it doesn’t really rub off, which is good.

Oh, have so much fun! I was totally stressed before my first dress-shopping experience, and I had a lot of the same questions you did.
As far as underwear goes, I wore a strapless bra, comfy panties, and spanx. I mainly wore spanx because I felt more comfortable and covered up in them–like I wasn’t totally on display in front of everyone.
If you plan on wearing heels, I’d bring them. Though most salons have shoes for you to try on to get a feel for the overall look.
Just relax. Be vocal and opinionated–it’ll help your consultant zero in on what you really want. Enjoy the process and don’t feel pressured to choose or buy. Even if you find the dress on your first trip, take at least a day to sleep on it.
Have fun and can’t wait to hear how it goes!
