I think it’s totally fine to start getting ideas on what you like and don’t like, but maybe wait a little longer to seriously consider purchasing since designers will be coming out with 2-3 new collections by the time next september rolls around. Also, a lot of what’s in boutiques now are the Spring collections, and you may be more interested in the Fall collections, so this Fall would be a good time to start looking seriously.

If you don’t change your mind a lot, then I don’t think it’s a big issue when you start looking.  What you don’t want to do is second guess yourself though.  But if you know you’ll be happy two years from now with what you choose, then go for it.  And if you want to go start having fun, you can.  It doesn’t mean you have to buy now!  Although I caution you – I did end up buying on my first visit out, 15 months out, when I had zero intentions of buying.  But I found “my” dress, and I couldn’t be happier!  It’s a great feeling!

wait until you have a firm date. if you mean september 2011, it’s not too soon to buy. make sure you look around a lot. if you mean september 2012 or later, i would wait. brides who buy their dresses too early are more likely to end up with dress regret and wasting money on a second dress…so many new collections will come out in between that you might like better.

I say start getting ideas but don’t actually shop until you are 1-2 years away from your wedding 🙂 Not trying to jynx ya, but chances are your body will change somehow in the next 4 years. For instance I’ve gone up two dress sizes and went from 32B to 40C in the course of one year!Embarassed And before that I’d dropped three sizes and lost some boobage! Alterations could fix all that but I say why go through the hassle ;P

I agree with the others. Go ahead and go dress shopping and get ideas but I wouldn’t commit to a dress if your wedding won’t be until September 2012 as new bridal lines will come out in that time and you might end up second guessing yourself.
