I’m in the same boat as you.  I’ve been looking online and getting an idea of dresses I like but I’ve been putting off going to try them on because I am hoping to lose weight beforehand.  I saw online that the general time line for finding a dress is 9-12 months from thde wedding date, so I am not stressing over it yet.  I’m thinking of going in January, once all the holiday chaos calms down!

Anytime up to 6 months before the wedding and you should be fine. It’s 6 months and less that some shops start charging rush fees (and some designers won’t do it at all).

Good luck and have fun!

I’m in the same boat. In the process of losing serious weight. I’ve tried on a bunch of dresses, at many different salons, and I’ve narrowed it down.

But I’m not getting measured or ordering my dress until January. I don’t want to have to totally re-construct it in alterations, which is what I would be doing if I bought it now.

I wanted to wait as well.  But I am way too impatient and I fell in love with a dress that I could not walk away from.  I ordered my dress two sizes smaller then I am now.  This will force me to lose the weight I want.  The dress is a corset back so it does provide some wiggle room in case I do not get to where I want to be.  I also tried on the dress in the size that I ordered. It did fit but it will definitely be more comfortable once I lose the weight.  I know is a risky game to play but I am doing it anyway. I may kick myself later but hopefully my plan works out just fine.

Make sure you order 5-6 months out (some designers need more time but generally this will work.)  No need to start shopping until a month or two before the order deadline.  If you order too soon but you keep shopping you may end up like a lot Bees with a dress you don’t like and having to splurge on a second dress that you love better.
