I’m getting married in June 2015. We’re also expecting our first in August of this year which was a great pleasant surprise! I’ve talked to a few friends who suggested I go dress shopping now, but I’ve read online that a lot of people suggest waiting because of how much your body can change post-baby Based on where I live I HAVE to order my dress no later than November 2014, which is only about 3 months give or take after giving birth. That doesn’t give me hardly any time to try on dresses with my ‘normal’ body, if I have even started to lose the baby weight.
Since I’ve just started to really show and transition into maternity clothes, my Bridesmaid or Best Man who gave birth last May said this is probably about where my body will be anyway post-baby around wedding time. I know bodies can change, and definitely can see it in my chest and hips already. What do you think? Shop now or wait until October and shop until I drop? Does it matter?

akamy: I’d definitely start looking now. You don’t have to order until the last minute, but it’s probably best to start the process. That way you can judge how much you’ve changed from now to then. You can make a judgement on what size to order based on your size now AND your size then, and decide what will look best on you, etc.

Post partum bodies are different for every women. Some keep weight on, some lose it quickly. I’m plus-size myself (size 18-20 pre-pregnancy) I lost some weight during pregnancy and after baby I’m down 30 pounds. I’m back in an 18 (sometimes a little lose) and I would say my body is the same as it was before (if I didn’t have a bit of saggy tummy from baby it would be better than pre-pregnancy!)
I would start looking for dresses now. It’ll help to have an idea of what you like and what looks good. You could always order a size up and have it altered.
