House of Brides near Woodfield has a HUGE selection and they’re really nice there. Volles was nice but too expensive. Gigi’s Closette is kinda weird, but they have nice dresses — a LOT under $1,000 and a lot of cheaper still past-season ones (but those are pretty picked-over, IMHO). Demetrios, also by Woodfield, is okay…the dresses all seemed kind of heavy and overpriced to me…a lot of heavy satin-y, shiny material with tons of bling…not my style (I wanted lace, and they have very few high quality lace dresses.)

I found my dress at House of Hope in Barrington, it’s a resale shop that gets the past-season dresses from some bridal shops in the area — they sell all the dresses for $50 a pop. Some are super nasty, but mine is gorgeous and looks like it was never even tried on 🙂

I HATE House of Brides. Customer service was awful. I made an appointment with my mom.  NO ONE helped me for over an hour past my appointment time, so I started to look at the dresses myself and someone came over to yell at us! We ended up leaving.

Volle’s Bridal is AMAZING.  Ask for Kacie.  She was my consultant and she is sooooo friendly and helpful.  I didn’t really know what I wanted so she brought me a huge selection of dresses in my budget for me to try on.  Yes, they do have higher end designer dresses that are $$$$$, but they have a ton of less expensive dresses too.  You just have to let them know up front what your budget is and they’ll help you.

evas bridal in oak lawn … thats the place. i got my dress there and they were very nice. i was able to go back twice to try it on again after i purchased it – once because i was unsure and another time to show my mom. only thing is they dont let you take pictures until you purchase the dress. my maggie sotterro dress and sash cost a total of 1650 – that included the tax.

Crystal Bride in Geneva!!  I bought my gown from there.  Thier staff is extremely friendly, and they have many many many beautiful gowns.  Plus Geneva is cute, so after your appointment, go have lunch at a cute restaurant, and visit some little cute shops!

Places not to go – Brides by Demetrious in Streets of Woodfield.  Ugly, expensive dresses, and I didn’t like the staff too much.

I went to A’Lamour in Barrington and LOVED it!!  All dresses were under $2,000 and they were really great at putting me in what I should be wearing, as opposed to what I had stuck in my mind 🙂 Carmel was wonderful to work with!!

A’Lamour is great! They do have pricier gowns too though. There is also Kathryn’s in McHenry and Wolfsfelts in Aurora which is obviously a little bit of a hike. There is Germaine’s Bridal in Lake Geneva, WI which may not be too far from where you are. Oh and Shelley’s in West Dundee. Good luck!

I am going to second Crystal Bride in Geneva! I had a great experience there! I bought both my dress there and we got the bridesmaids dresses there.  Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful!

Wolsfelt’s in Aurora is a family-run place. I happened to stumble across it about 2 weeks before I went dress shopping and it was the 4th shop I went to and I found my dress there!

I also really liked Kathryn’s Bridal in McHenry.

I went to Volle’s in Lake Zurich and absolutely have adored every moment of being in their store. Pamela is a fantastic consultant. A true gem.

Id second Evas Bridal in Oak Lawn! They are very nice, helpful, and have lots of dresses to choose from. Just DO NOT go to Evas Bridal in Orland Park….they have the same name but they are not owned by the same people and have absolutely horrendous service! Please DO NOT go there. I got my dress there and I regret it every day!
