For my first wedding, I was a 14 and ordered a 22. It never bothered me–just numbers to help you order something that will fit. This time, with a different designer, I was a 12 and ordered an 18.

@Bunny_the_Bride: I can be anywhere from a size 8 to a size 11 (I hate jeans!) So when my dress came in at a size fourteen I gagged.

I’m a size 18 and bought a size 18 dress. The others I tried on were a 20, but only because the 18s wouldnt go over my boobs.
I think a lot of the problem (not saying all the time it is) is that people dont know what they actually wear. I only say this because I work in the public and see a LOT of people who are wearing clothes entirely too small. One of my coworkers says she wears a 16, but she should probably be in a 20 or 22 and her pants are so tight it looks like she’s about ready to get cut in half. And I see that ALL the time.
Again, not saying that this is always the case, but its just something I’ve noticed.

the weird thing is, i’m a street size 2 in dresses, and a size 4 in jeans. my wedding gown is a size 2. so i’m not sure if it’s by designer, or what! (my gown is an Allure)

+1 we posted almost the same thing. my gown size was true to my street size. strange…

I’m usually a size 8-10, my gown was a 14. It made me sad!

The dress I tried on was true to size- White by Vera Wang. But it helps that it was only fitted on the top, and the bottom was ballgown, because my hips are a full street size bigger than my top, so I probably would have had to go up 2 sizes to fit my bottom if we went for mermaid

I didn’t let it bother me. I’m a street 16 and my dress is a 24 (mostly due to my chest).
It’s just a number. It shouldn’t bother you. Even more than that, it’s not even a CORRECT number. Do you feel beautiful? Do you look beautiful? Then who cares what that number is. Just wear it and feel bridal. 🙂

I’m a street size 2/4 and I ordered a 10. I was prepared for it though, because when I was in my cousin’s wedding the sample size 8 Mori Lee bridesmaid dress fit perfectly.
Actually, according to the Mikaella size chart, my bust was a 10, my waist was an 8, and my hips were a 12. Granted, I do have a big booty, but I have read that often the proportions are weird with wedding dresses.
You’d think that of all clothing types, size inflation would be most rampant in wedding gowns! Nothing makes a girl feel great about herself as having to order a dress that is 3-4 sizes bigger than she usually wears…

I was totally prepared for this and I was expecting to order a larger size dress than I’m used to. I wear a street size 8 and I wound up buying a size 10 dress for my wedding gown and had it altered to be brought in a little around the waist and in the bust. Then when I went to get fitted for a bridesmaid dress for my friend’s wedding they ordered me a 14 Needless to say, after teh size of my wedding dress I wasn’t prepared for that measurement. I haven’t gotten that dress in yet, but I’m hoping it is a little big as they measured me in pants and a bulky sweater.

Haha yeah I’m a street size 2/4 (in designer sizes, 4/6) and my wedding dress was a 12. Whatever.

@Bunny_the_Bride: Do not stress about this!
I was measured as a size 12 bust, size 14 waist and a size 18 hips! I am a street size 10. Wedding dress sizing is just silly.

I always go for uk sizing as most tailors use their measurements so I never ask fo a size, instead I ask what the inches of the bust, waist and hips are

Mine was also true to my size.. the numbers are just made up most of the time.
