So I bought a preowned dress from another (totally awesome) bride on here and it will be here this Friday! But now I’m totally freaking out for several reasons:
1. I have never tried on this dress..not just THIS dress but this style
2. I have no idea what size I actually wear in wedding dresses
3. Am I cheating myself by not having the ‘dress experience’?
I fell in love with the Maggie Sottero Milana dress online and just had to have it. I posted a thread on here and a bride that just got married May 26th contacted me. After many emails back and forth I purchased the dress, veil and crinoline this past Friday. Now that it’s actually on the way I’m getting so nervous!
What if it doesn’t fit? What if it looks horrible on me? What if I hate it in real life? Oh, there are so many what if’s! I have a really low self esteem right now because I had surgery last year that left me bed ridden for 7 months and caused me to gain 40 pounds :-/ I feel like the body that I have now belongs to somebody else! I’m so worried that I won’t look or feel like a bride in this new, bigger body.
It’s been wonderful looking and planning things online, but what if my dreams get shattered when I actually try on this dress?! I tried to buy a dress that would fit my body now but I’m also nervous that this weight will start coming back off before my 5/4/13 wedding and I’ll end up with a dress that is 4 sizes too big.
Did anybody else buy a dress untried? What were the results? Anybody have any words of wisdom (or a valium)?

Don’t worry! You will be fine. If it absolutely doesn’t fit or you hate it, you can always sell it again! I’m sure another bride will fall in love with it online the way you did.
And no – I don’t think you cheated yourself out of having that “dress experience.” It’s overrated, in my opinion. It’s a bunch of strangers watching you try on things and chiming in with their opinions – even when you haven’t asked them!
Focus on the fact that you fell in love with the dress online and now you’re about to have it in your posesssion. That is a very good thing!
I also imagine you’ve saved money buying it from a Bee instead of in a store….so remember that, too! You’ve done well!
And guess what – if you lose weight, that’s why alterations were created! It won’t be a problem at all! Extra money, maybe…but I’m sure you aren’t going to put a price on getting your ‘old body’ back, if that’s what you truly want. But even if you don’t lose the weight, you’ll be beautiful and gorgeous on your wedding day….and your fiancee will think you’re the most stunning person he’s ever set eyes on! Don’t forget that!!
So remember – it’s all going to be okay!
Keep us posted!

@GratefulHoops: I couldn’t agree more with what has just been said by the previous Bee. Plus, the Milana is STUNNING! you’re going to look amazing.

@GratefulHoops: I purchased my dress without trying it on. and based on what everyone is telling me it looks beautiful.
Don’t worry, just wait until the dress gets to you. If you lose back the weight, just alter it

Thanks for the positive feedback! I’ve been so excited about it until I actually bought it and then the nerves set in lol. Hopefully it will fit and I’ll love it and I can post some pics 🙂
