Hi Bees!
I stumbled across this site one day when I Googled dress regret.
For months I have read other posts about dress regret/stress and finally decided to create a post as well.
I don’t know if what I’m experiencing is just dress stress or acutal regret.
I have been engaged for almost 14 months and the wedding is 7 months away. When I got engaged I immediately started looking at dresses online, specifically a bridal store that is located in my area. I found a dress that I LOVED and needed to try on ASAP.
I went to the brial store and searched thru so many gowns but couldn’t find the one I was looking for…so while I was waiting for my bridal consultant I tried a bunch on. Various silhouettes, colors and fabrics…and they were all “eh”. So I asked my bridal consultant if she could locate the dress I set out to see. She DID in fact find the one I was looking for and when I tried it on I went WILD! My mom cried and my aunt and gram gave me great reactions as well (a little less emotional than my mom…haha) but still positive reactions! I was ready to walk down the aisle that day. I didn’t want to take it off. The gown fit me…but will need some alterations in my bust and needs hemmed as I am a shortie. It was a sample sale because it was a discontinued dress…originally $1200 on sale for $200. I bought it and was over the moon!
At some point I start having doubts…not very early on though. I don’t know why exactly but I just did. Maybe because it’s discontinued or maybe it’s because it’s a sample of maybe just because I bought it so early on and have had too much time to think. Who knows?!
I went to another bridal salon a few months back thinking maybe I just need to look and purchase another dress. On my way there I felt guilty, almost like I was doing something wrong. After trying on around 20 gowns…none of them impressed me and I only liked one which was already VERY similar to the one I bought. I left feeling great…confident in my original choice.
Here I am again though…stressing my dress. Hoping I will love it on my big day…hoping all the alterations will go as planned.
What do you think ladies!? Everyone who has seen it on me tells me it’s perfect for me.

I wish I knew what to say. Maybe reframing will help? That is $1200 dress, not $200. It is not a sample dress, it is your dress. I think it is hard to see the value because, ironically, it came so easily. But here it is, a beautiful dress waiting to be worn on your special day. I would suggest writing down what you initially liked about it. Remember, you don’t need a perfect dress, just your dress.
Signed, been there, done that, and finally loving my dress

It really is perfect on you!!! It flatters your body perfectly. Since you went to the other store and ended up trying on the same style dress and you were unsatisfied with them all, I would quit worrying and think about other things ๐ your dress is gorgeous!!!

First off, SUPER jealous you got your gown for $200! Two, your dress is so flattering! In my opinion, if you’d gone to not only look, but try on more dresses and felt confident after leaving, I think you’re experiencing dress stress. I’d say it was more dress regret if you ended up falling in love for a dress that wasn’t even close to your dress. Have you gotten your veil and other accessories? Maybe trying it all on together will give you further reassurance that your dress is one you truly love! Dress regret seems to be super common (I go through bouts of it too!) But I’ve read from many other bees that their dress regret disappeared on their wedding day when everything was put together ๐

GFerg: Thank you!
I think so too. Just overthinking it I guess since there is so much pressure on how us Brides look on the big day!

I LOVE your dress! It’s got so much going for it: beautiful cut, gorgous ruffles, nice touches of bling. And you wear it so very well. I can’t imagine anything more perfect on you. Put your doubts to rest. You hit the jackpot early.

cruisinbee: Thank you! You are right…it came so easy! I have plenty of reasons I love it…unique, trendy, has some bling, flowing, etc. I think I will feel MUCH better once it is completely fitted to me.
