I don’t know exactly when my wedding will be.  First, we thought about end of Nov 2013 as a destination wedding.  Then, we thought about Oct 2013 – possibly Columbus Day Weekend (same weekend as you!) in NC (where is your wedding???) at Childress Vineyards.  Now, we’re not sure what we’re doing.  However, I already went dress shopping once to just kind of start off.  I know you’re supposed to order the dress about 6-9 months out if you want to avoid rush shipping fees and some dresses you can’t order if it’s too close.  Since it’s coming up to a year before the wedding, I would start casually going dress shopping and looking at dresses.  You might want to start now, but wait until the new lines come out – apparently, they’ll be out this October, I think a bridal salon consultant told me??

@MrsFutureG:  I’m from NY!  What part of NJ??

I love Alfred Angelo!  I’m also in love w/ Enzoani and they’re having a trunk show in White Plains labor day weekend, so I’m thinking about hitting that up then.  Not sure yet, though – at least you have your venue and date finalized – I’m afraid to go, fall in love with a dress and then not really want to commit b/c I don’t have a venue/date, yet!

Good luck!

@MrsFutureG:  Oh no!  That sucks!  Well, at least you’ve found a time and place to get everyone together and that’s more important than the designer!

I’m not looking until December.  We’ve gotten a lot done with the venue, photographer, etc, which has meant lots of deposits being paid right now.  I am also losing weight (30 pounds since Jan!) and I plan to lose more before the wedding.  Since dresses can only be taken in so much, I need to wait a little bit otherwise the dress will not fit.  Everyone keeps saying to go and try on and then just order the size I need in December, but I want to wait and pick the dress that looks good then, not the one that looks good now.  I figure even if I don’t get a dress until Jan, it is still 10 months out.

@Sloaner:  Congrats on the weight loss! I agree that it makes sense to see what looks good on you in a few months because your body shape may change.

I’m scared of getting a dress too soon and having dress regret. I am going to start looking in September and then buy in December or January.

I actually bought my dress in February, haha! I’m way ahead of the game. We’ve also picked the dress the bridesmaids will wear, but we mostly did that so we’d know our color and have some sort of direction. The girls won’t order the dresses until a couple months before our day. I plan on starting alterations on my dress maybe a couple months before the day also.

I’ll be waiting until Winter time to look.  I’m hoping to shed some pounds before going to try on dresses!
