I recommend an A-line dress. I too have a stomach which goes out farther than my breasts.

My belly sticks out a lot and I went with a natural waist ball gown

Structured tailoring is an apple’s best friend!  I definitely carry my weight in the middle, and it was tough finding dresses that flattered, particularly with an E-cup bust to contend with as well.

This is the difference (1 week apart) between me in a non-corsetted empire line/high natural waist dress, and a corsetted drop waist.  I am the same weight in both pictures, but I think I look significantly larger in the first dress.

(I bought the second one in a size 20.  Both samples are a (slightly too small) size 18 here.  The shop assistant is actually crouched behind me in the first one, holding it together at the back.)

@Future MrsB  I love this dress and you look great in it! Is it a David’s Bridal?

@felitaroe2170  I know how that is.

The first thing I did was figure out which designers carried dresses that were specifically for plus sized women. Here’s a few lines off the top of my head:

Mori Lee: Julietta

Bonny: Unforgettable

Alfred Angelo (not any specific line but they do sometimes have plus sized samples starting from 16/18w)

Watters: Wtoo

Roz la Kelin – Glamour Plus (not sure if you’d get this designer where you are, she’s pretty common here though).

Allure (I don’t think they have a specific plus sized line either, but they have some truly flattering dresses for plus sized women)

Davids Bridal (if you’re in the US or Canada).

Start looking for stockists of those brands in your area and then start calling around to make sure that they have samples in your size.

I am a typical apple; large boobs and problem tummy.

I found that ball gowns with a structured top were the most flattering. I tried a corset gown which gave me the most amazing figure, but in the end decided on something a little more romantic.

@ soontobedrt   I loooooove your dress! I picked a mermaid style gown but I still feel the love for dreamy ballgowns. Gorgeous!
