Thanks to the lovelies on here, I decided to have a completely custom dress made by Dressilyme. After a ton of back and forth, I ordered my dress on the 3rd of September. Last night on the 21st I was sent photos of my dress!!
I had my dress custom made because I could not find anything that I loved- I wanted something tea length yet vintage (We are having a very informal style ceremony and reception) which would go with the pin-up hair and makeup I want and the overall vintage style that I want as decor. In addition to that, there were parts of different dresses that I tried on that were flattering, but nothing that I felt were overall flattering to my figure (more on that later). So I figured, what the heck, I am just going to design my own dress and have a one of a kind creation.
So here are the pictures of what I sent over for my inspiration :
I later changed my mind in the sash and instead asked them to just make it removable in case I totally hated it. I also asked them to add sleeves and a full back, with covered buttons going up the zipper. They asked me what style of sleeves that I wanted, and to be honest I don’t really care (even though this post seems like it, I am really not very picky!). So I found some generic cap sleeves and sent them this photo:
So they sent me these photos last night to show me what they created! Please keep in mind that they told me in the message that they cold not get my dress to fit on the dress form… As they so politely stated “As your personal size is not the common size, so the dress could not wear the model. We just hang it up and take the photos.” 🙁 I guess it is because I am 40-29-37… But I didn’t think that was SO bizarre, just a chunky hourglass… :/
So!, I actually think that they executed this way better than I expected!! I am actually pretty much in love with the overall style, and highly impressed myself with my franken-dress (as I have dubbed this experiment…Hey I am a scientist :)) that I was able to visualize! My only concerns are as follows: I asked for the lenth to be mid calf – I am short at 5’3.5″, but my hollow to hem should have been 41.5″. It seems a bit short to me, hitting me maybe at the knee. The other thing is that it flares a good bit at the bottom, and I wanted it to be a lot more fitted. Although, I thought about later that it might actually mean needing a small slit in the back. I tried on a lot of dresses that flared out at tea length, and because I look very young they made me seem even younger. At 30, I didn’t want to look like I was in a first holy communion dress!!
Any other thoughts? Concerns, fixes, and overall options are highly appreciated!
