Hello curious Wedding Bees!
i wanted to write this post hoping to help those of you brides, like myself who desire a designer gown but are unable or unwilling to spend thousands of dollars. I looked at several online sites (based in China) before deciding to go with Dressilyme. The rep from presales was very helpful and patient with me as we exchanged dozens of emails. (Be patient with the time difference this usually means only one email exchange per day.). Once I decided on a dress and agreed upon custom changes, the dress was made in about three weeks. It was mailed via DHL and received in 30 hours!
The dress is very well made and all of my special requests were followed to a T! The satin quality and lining is very nice. I paid for custom sizing, a neckline change and had them add a beading/lace waist embellishment. With all those changes it was $260 (the dress without changes or embellishment was $1600 in the local store!)
This is my second wedding and I seriously considered NOT getting a wedding gown. But then decided what the heck, go for it! i decided to have it made floor length, with no train. Your opinions on it are welcome!
This is the dress listed on Dressily.

I asked them to remove the train, change the neckline to sweetheart and add the waist embellishment. Here is how it came out! Excuse the wrinkles. This is straight from the shipping bag. And, this was a “quick” try on I didn’t have the corset as tight as I would like. I’m hoping it will be more form fitting when laced tighter.

The below picture is me on the left with the dress in my local bridal store. The Dressilyme photo (above) was as close a style as I could find on their site. And remember i requested the change in neckline and waist that you see on me on the right. What do you think? Did I make the right decision for a 50 year old second time bride?

I was very nervous buying the dress online from China but I do not regret it! It’s great quality and a decent price! (And NO weird smell like some stated from their mail order dresses.). There are no loose threads and I don’t even think I need alterations! (Alterations alone could easily cost over $200!)

I think it looks great but the left sweetheart seems wider than the right side, the dip doesnt look like it is in the middle

WestToBlan, I think they did a great job. I really like the beading on the hip area. The sweetheart neckline also looks mre flattering on the gown you ordered.

I hope I did not make a mistake having the embellishment added to the waist. I feel like I look much heavier in my dress (right) compared to the one I tried in the store (left). (I’m the same weight). Is it the wrinkles? The waist? The sweetheart neck? The shorter gown? I’m getting kinda sad because I don’t love the fit as I had hoped! Am I being too critical or is there a difference in my look?

WestToBlan: thanks for sharing your experience and comparison photos. I personally love the one Dressilyme made for you. Love the embellishment and I think you look great!! Once you steam out the wrinkles it will look even better.

WestToBlan: I think the reason you feel you look thinner in the dress store dress is because you look like you’re standing at a slight angle in that photo and straight on in the new photo. And also the length. I think your dressilyme dress looks beautiful!!

I think they did a great job. The picture on the left is longer than the one on the right and it could be the optical illusion that a longer line looks narrower because we see proportions. I think it looks really nice on you.

WestToBlan: Women you are DIVINE!!!! Omg like seriously you are stunning, from top to toe…. Your shoulders and chest look very soft and elegant, the more pronounced sweet heart was a very good change. It gives your bust a great shape. I LOVE the embelishments on the waist, I actually think it pulls the eye around your waist and gives a beautiful shape. I think that considering you had the train removed the dress is still so elegant. In this pic you said it wasnt laced properly?? Thats why you dont feel so great, i would never have know, had you not said anything, you have such a gorgeous little figure. once the dress has been pressed, you have your ladies strapping you in and you look in the mirror… you will realise you are a sexy hollywood siren!! xx
