I am new here. We just got engaged at the beginning of this month and we are planning to have an April wedding. We are in south Louisiana and planned on a casual picnic wedding during strawberry season. Think barbecue type food, wildflowers, lemonade, cake and pie, ceremony and reception outdoors. I had this planned out in my head long before we got engaged, and I always pictured it as being a very laid-back affair.
However yesterday I bought my dress and there is nothing casual about it. It is Essence of Austrailia D 1264. Mermaid, lace, lots of beading. I am in love with it. There was another dress I considered which matched our wedding ideas, but I didn’t love it as much.
Should we change our wedding style (and probably pay a little more for the wedding) because of the dress I bought? Or stick with our plans? Any ideas are appreciated. I can’t really change my mind about the dress..plus I don’t really want to. Thanks everyone!!

The bride can never be overdressed at her own wedding. If that’s the dress and the wedding you want, then go for it.

We Southerners can do casual barbeque, or fancy white-tablecloth barbeque, so there is no need to change dress and still have it suit your wedding. First of all, wear the dress that makes you happy and have the wedding you want, and forget anyone’s expectations! But, if you want to help the dress and the wedding get closer together in style, just upgrade a few elements of the wedding and you’ll be fine. Instead of mason jars, use nice vases, instead of burlap ribbon or raffia use silk or satin ribbin, etc.

You absolutely cannot be overdressed for your own wedding! If you love your dress, wear it 🙂

I think it’ll be fine. Just upgrade your wedding; still have a BBQ, but make it a bit fancier.
