I am having such a difficult time drinking the 64 oz of water (fluid) that we need to drink during pregnancy. I find it is easier to drink a glass of water when I am eating a meal, but otherwise it just makes me feel so bloated and sick. Even juice or anything makes me just feel bloated and feel like I am about to pop like a balloon.
Does anyone else have this problem too, or am I the only one? Any advice?

I don’t generally have this problem, but maybe this will help….I chug a pint of water first thing in the morning so that I have 1/4 down first thing in the morning (I’m super thirsty in the mornings and also hungry, so don’t feel bloated after!)

I agree! Water is not my favorite, would rather drink a diet pepsi lol, but I’ve found while I’m at my desk during the day I drink 1 32oz glass in the morning, even if it takes me a while, and another 32 oz glass in the afternoon. Just sitting there sipping, I don’t realize that when I go home I’ve already had my 64oz of water a day…good luck, hope it gets better and easier 🙂

The taste of water throughout the first tri made me nauseous and want to throw up. And generally I LOVE water. Adding ice cubes helped a little. I supplemented by drinking 50% juice 50% water, flavoring the water helped me.
Now that I’m in my 2nd tri it’s a little better as long as I am drinking the water ice cold. I worry about getting too much sugar from juice so I take it down to 25% juice 75% water now. Throughout the work day I just fill my glass only 1/3 full. That way my water is always cold and gives me a chance to get up and walk!

I added those Crystal Light flavor pouches to my water, which made me chug my entire bottle. In 10 minutes, I had 20oz down. I only did this once a day, in the afternoon, and it helped me beat the “I’m sick of water” blues.

I find that I drink more when I use a container that has a straw. Don’t know why, I just seem to take more sips throughout the day.

I TOTALLY have this problem. I just can’t seem to drink enough b/c I’m just not thirsty…. AND through the 1st trimester the very thought of water made me sick.
I do try to put lemon juice in for flavoring though and that DOES help, but things like Crystal Light are a no-go for me b/c of the sweeters.
I really gotta figure something out though so I can drink more… =/

I have a hard time too…8 glasses is just a lot for me! I’ve heard that if you eat a lot of fruit and soup that it counts as liquid intake.

Thanks for all of the responses and suggestions. I have tried Kool-Aid (with a little less sugar), adding lemon, lemonade…just drinking anything makes me feel like I am blowing up like a balloon! It is just so uncomfortable drinking anything it seems.
I do eat a lot of fruit, so hopefully that does add some fluid. Maybe I just have to force myself to drink some more no matter how awful it makes me feel. I wish I could get over this bloated feeling stage…or does it last the whole time?

The weird thing about water is that you could be feeling so bloated because you aren’t getting enough. And that once you do start drinking enough liquids, it will help flush your system out and make you feel less bloated (and you’ll be burning extra calories from all the bathroom breaks!)

I don’t drink much at all, my doctor told me that as long as I was peeing 5-6 times a day I was fine. So now I stopped trying to over drink! I usually manage maybe four-five glasses of water a day…and that is the only beverage I drink. Good luck 🙂

I completely agree with this – it’s one of those weird paradoxes that never seems to make sense, but it is definitely true. The more water you drink, the less bloated you are in general.
I don’t know if I’m lucky but I tend to drink 3 – 4 litres of water per day (3 litres = 100 oz, 4 litres = 133 oz). I got into the habit whilst I was working as it kept me awake during the day and it’s just a habit for me now. It may only be a coincidence but I am 10 weeks now and haven’t really had any bloating issues. The past week or so I’ve been getting rather bloated in the evening but I also know that those were days when my water consumption was low for me for whatever reason.
I don’t have any advice for how to make it taste better but I do think if you can force yourself through it for a couple of days, you may find the bloating goes down some. Good luck!
