Grrrrgh! I am so mad!
My poor fiance was driving home this morning when a drunk driving rear ended him and the car next to him. He was doing at least 150km and had just run THREE red lights!! He had two people in the car with him and if it wasn’t for his friend in the passenger seat telling him that the light was red he could have killed 8 people!!!
Luckily though no one was injured – AND the cops were driving on the opposite side of the road and witnessed the whole thing! I am so angry! Why people do such stupid things is beyond me! I wish they would send him to jail for 3 months and take his license away for a decent amount of time so he can learn his lesson!!
Not to mention a highschool friend was killed last Tuesday in a truck accident so I’ve been on edge everytime my partner drives anywhere!
My partner feels terrible about my car – but that was my last thought! He’s all snug in bed now watching Top Gear and eating some chocolate. All I care is that no one was injured.
We are lucky to have full comp insurance so my little Mazda is covered – except undriveable!

Wow…that is scary. I hope that driver gets more than a slap on the wrist and doesn’t get to drive again for YEARS, if ever.
(And for those not familiar with metric system 150 km/hr is roughly 93 mph!)

@louiseW: Good vibes coming to you and your family. Darling Husband had his car totalled by a drunk driver. Hit and Run at that. I’m thankful that you and your Fiance are okay. And sorry about your friend. *hugs*

thanks pharmy, for helping us non-metric users!
93mph, that’s INSANE! Were NONE of the passengers sober enough to say ‘hey dumbass, slow the f*** down!’
And I would if that kid got vehicular homicide for texting and driving, that this guy would get 7 counts of attempted vehicular homicide and can’t ever drive again. I live in WI, and it makes me SICK to see the news were some asshole gets his 4th, 5th, 6th DUI/OWI and they’ve only had a suspended license. They need to be so much harsher on these people. I guarantee this isn’t the first time that idiot has driven drunk.
So glad that your Fiance is ok and the only damage is to the car!

@pharmy: Thank you! I’m so mad I forgot about converting to miles 🙂
@gogogiraffes: Aww thank you! Me too! I wasn’t with him, but he just feels bad as it’s my dream car. But to me at the end of the day it’s just an object!

So happy that no one was injured! Hope he goes to jail. I had a similar accident shortly after I graduated high school. Was with a friend (she was driving) and we were at a red light too, all of a sudden BAM! Drunk driver hit us, his passenger jumped out of the car otherwise we wouldn’t have known they were just at the bar up the road. The driver took off but forgot his license plate in the road! They got him for leaving the scene of an accident but not a DWI because they couldn’t find him til the next day 🙁
Luckily for your Fiance the cops saw everything. Again glad no one was hurt.

@hisgoosiegirl: I think he should be jailed! Over here they put away drug dealers – to me this is worse than selling some drugs to people who willingly take them.
There were children in the other car he hit!!
He is lucky he didn’t hurt anyone! I think I would have gone all Hulk on his arse!
I’ve always felt so strongly about people who drink and drive. It’s the one thing that when I hear of anything related to it makes me so mad! I am just so glad the cops were there and saw it all, although there are massive skid marks that prove it!

I think that if you get charged with a DUI you should get your license removed forever. Seriously. And my Fiance AND my brother have had DUIs.
People don’t understand that driving is a privelage and that you can easily kill someone. I wish people remembered that before the cut people off, did their mascara on the way to work, texted, etc on the road.

I lost a friend to a drunk driver when I was 20. I LOATHE them with a fiery passion. I’m so glad no one was hurt and I’m just as glad that this guy got caught. Hopefully it will be the scare he needs to sober up.

@hisgoosiegirl: FYI – After your 4th you do jail time and lose your liscense for years. You also have to have the breathalizer in your car indefinately. I unfortunately know this because my sister has gotten 4:( I feel very strongly that our punishment for 1-3 needs to be much higher and after 3, I don’t think you should have the option of getting your license back ever.
@louiseW: I am so glad that your Fiance is ok. I definatley hope that the driver gets a real punishment. And yay for having coverage so you don’ have to deal with getting your car fixed/replaced.

@Miss Orchard: I completely agree! Do it once and you should never have the priveledge to drive again! Over here people have been known to go to court and complain that they need their license in order to get to work or whatever and have had their supsension of license lessened. Not usually for DUI’s, but I figure if you have your license taken away from you, you should pay the full price and lose it for however long the Judge orders – who gives a *&^% if you need it for work – you’re the one who effed up!

@ieatunicorns: Thank you 🙂 We are so lucky! My fiance’s car broke down last week, and he has been using mine. He usually would have been in his which only has 3rd party, fire & theft insurance so we would have been stuffed with $9,000 left to pay on his loan!

@ieatunicorns: I agree, I think that’s crazy that you can get to your 4th without jail time. Thanks for the clarification….I knew it was something that seemed ridiculous, and I think the (recent) guy was getting his fourth? And had been driving on a suspended license.
A few years before I was in college, the club I was involved in had a beloved member killed by a drunk driver over Christmas break while she was being the Dirty Delete for her friends. Her family set up a scholarship that they presented at our club banquet each year and it was heartbreaking to see them come back each year and tell their daughter’s story. Never a dry eye in the room.
