This could possibly be a very stupid question but I am totally using the excuse that i’m a first time bride and have no clue what I’m doing. This DJ that I’m looking at hiring is $550 for 5 hours, which is fine but I was thinking our reception would be 5pm-11pm. First hour will be dinner so we don’t really need a DJ but I would want some kind of music, what do people usually do? Or do I hire the DJ for another hour and he just plays ‘dinner music’?
If I don’t hire him for another hour and figure something else out for dinner music, does he set up ahead of time so he isn’t having to do it while we are eating?
thanks for the help bees’!

Have you spoken to your DJ about this? He might be able to help you come up with a solution. Maybe you can play an ipod mix during dinner?

My DJ is making a CD with all songs I want played during cocktail hour for an additional charge. Also at my venue they have built in speakers with music I could have used for free, I just wasn’t fond of the style of music. So talk to the DJ and venue see what the options are and which one is best for you!

Our DJ’s package was for 5 hours but like you, we wanted him to play from 5-11. We ended up just paying for an additional hour at the end of the night to the tune of $100. You will have to pay him for the time that he’s there, which means the full 6 hours. Even if he’s not DJ’ing during the dinner hour, he still has to be at your event.
