So I see lots of people complaining about group texts…maybe i’m dumb I’m not sure, but I don’t get it.
I send texts to multiple people all the time, but when people reply it’s only the one person who sees it and the responses come in separately…
Same thing, my friend sent a text yesterday saying ‘sorry for the group text’ but I only saw her name, when I replied (as far as I know) she’s the only one who got it and we continued a spin off chat.
I have an iPhone4 – maybe that’s the difference? Or have I been sending random texts to strangers and I don’t even know it?

@MsGinkgo: I don’t know how much this is going to help, but I have an older Samsung Android and I don’t have group text, so if I send messages to a group, they each get their own text and can respond individually. If someone else sends out a group text, I can’t see who else is on it – the only way I know it’s a group text is if someone else replies, because then it goes to the whole group. But if I respond to the group text, it just goes back to the original sender because my phone doesn’t have group text capabilities.
I’m the only one I know who doesn’t have group text, but maybe it’s not a function on the Iphone 4? I’m not sure what my friends have. Sorry, I don’t think I’m helping!

@EllEmm005: I just went to my text options and I don’t have a group text option so maybe my phone is like yours.

My older Android didn’t accept group texts for a while. but when I upgraded, it did. DH’s family all have iPhones and group text all the time. When I send a message to multiple people (or receive them from anyone else), it responds to everyone, but everyone’s name shows up in the message too.
I’m not sure if you’ve been texting random people but it’s possible. It should show up though, so I have no idea.

Hm thats odd, because even my iPhone 3gs (people act like they are surprised it even still exists still haha) has group text (once I upgraded the iOS)… Maybe its somewhere in your settings? if you havent upgraded your phone in a loooong time it could be that?

@baileyjosephine: I have the newest operating system I’ve been told to install
@abbie017: I don’t know…
For example, i sent my brother and sister a text together with info about a gift for our other brother, it shows in my phone as being sent to A & C, but their replies are captured separately in conversations between us individually…

@Sunnyday278: I’m really confused now, I just googled group text on iPhone and it says that what I’ve been doing is sending a group text but it never creates a chat thread or anything (i’m perfectly okay with this mind you – just confused)

I have a 4s and i have group texting its annoying for non iphone users because of the way you have to “download” the text and if you don’t know everyone on the text then its a waste of time… but now samsung users can download an app called “hang out” and this allows for them to use for group texts.

I still have a Droid X, and I hate Group Texting, because, I never know if I’m receiving a group text, until, like @EllEmm005: noted, I begin seeing other people replying to the group text.
The first couple of times I saw these types of texts in my phone, I had no idea they were other people replying to a group text and just thought that random people were texting me. Then, when I texted that number and asked who it was who was texting me, the person replied with a first name and the person to whom she was responding. Then I figured out what was happening.
Darling Husband has an updated phone, so he can always see when he’s receiving a group text. I cannot ever tell. I am unnerved by them, because I’m always wondering if anything else I may write to that person somehow can be seen by other people. I still have no idea if that is occurring.

If all the recipients of the group text are on imessage it shows (on my old iphone 4) as a group. We can all see each other’s responses.
As soon as I add someone not on imessage into the text it comes back individually as single text conversations (as if I’d sent the same message 5 times to 5 different people.)

@MsGinkgo: I’m not 100% sure but I think the group text thing has something to do with your carrier. If you have Verizon and send to all Verizon people you won’t get everyone’s responses over your phone (it’ll be individual) but the responses will come back to the group from the AT&T ro Sprint (just an ex.) group members? That seems to be the trend with my phone – runs on Android 4.3

@MsGinkgo: I have an iphone 4s – if I message more then 1 person, everyone sees everyone else’s responses. Is “group text” a feature separate from simply sending a message to multiple people?

@sostobe: maybe that’s it! it always shows as being sent as a text message because the people I frequently send as a group (mom, sister, brother, sister) all have different phones, only one of my sisters also has an iPhone!

@CTbride2010: Thank you for that – I’m looking the app up right now. So sick of trying to piece together all the separate messages to figure out a conversation!
@Brielle: I was confused the first few times too! I thought random strangers were congratulating me!
